Update: The bug that required 1.3.29x has been patched and version 1.4 is out now!
Play here: Stepford County Railway ๐ - Roblox
V1.3.29x
The Issue
Stepford County Railway has recently seen a step increase in the number of crash reports on all devices as a result of a game engine bug causing the game servers to crash, anywhere between 5 and 15 minutes after opening.
This is, as you might imagine, causing a lot of issues with the ability to play the game, as many routes require more time than this. The game is also currently featured from the 9th to the 16th of December and this isnโt leaving a great impression on first-time players.
The bug isnโt our fault, but of course we feel responsible to do something about it, especially with the increased player count, and Roblox wonโt be able to release a fix on their end until Monday 16th at the earliest due to their own working hours and schedule for this type of release (unfortunately when we are no longer on the featured sort).
The Temporary Fix
To provide a temporary โfixโ, we are releasing patch 1.3.29x which will disable manual signalling, as well as several minor signalling features. The total list of temporary changes is given below:
- Manual signalling, including selecting a signal to view its status.
- Signals auto-refresh (in case a train leaves a block in a weird way, this resets the signal).
- Platforms auto-refresh (same, but for platforms and platform boards).
- Longer delay before platform boards and indicators clear after a train has left (5x longer delay).
- Potentially longer delay in clearing a signal once the train has left the block (although in most cases it will take the same amount of time).
I say โfixโ in quotation marks because this patch delays the crash, rather than preventing it. The problematic function that causes the memory leak is required for our signalling system, but by disabling some of the more intensive aspects of it, we can slow down the leak enough to let the sever last for hour(s) instead of ~15 minutes.
It is important to remember these are temporary changes, and will be undone as of version 1.4.0 once the core bug has been patched by Roblox. Both ourselves and Roblox apologise for any inconvenience.
Version 1.4.0 When?
We currently plan to release version 1.4.0 late on Monday 16th December 2019 to give Roblox time to patch the bug and push the release. If there is any delay to this, we will re-evaluate and let you know.
Thanks for your patience.
