Stock House, Lottery System, and concerns

What is a Stock House?

A stock house is a location where players can buy and sell products from a trader. The price of the item depends on how much stock the NPC has (for ex. there will be a 12% increase from the base price if item count plummets to 100). If a player is selling, there will be a 10% selling fee for every transaction which will go into a lottery pot.

How does the Lottery System work?

Basically, the pot money is the selling fee from the stock house. Every day, players choose x random numbers from y to z and if they win, they get the prize.

Concerns

Since this is still a concept, there may be points that may violate the TOS. The thing that concerns me the most is the stock house not having a fixed price. Although, I don’t really think most of the elements here violates the TOS since:

  1. Every player is given a chance to try out the lottery. They could buy more tickets for in-game currency.
  2. The odds are not randomized.
  3. If the price of an item is high, they could come back later and vice versa for selling.

I’m more concerned of if this will break the economy or affect it. Players who have started early and those who are able to take advantage of the stock house may increase the gap between rich and poor.

What are your thoughts on this?

This is basically gambling. I am not fully sure if it breaks the TOS but you definitely shouldn’t implement it as you can have your game taken down.

Which system is considered gambling? The stock house or the lottery system? Everyone is given a chance in the lottery house so it shouldn’t violate the TOS at least thats what I’ve heard.

Your stock house will be fine because it is basically selling and reselling as for the lottery house it is pretty close to gambling. It reminds me of the Powerball lottery even though everyone gets a free chance. I’d be wary about that but then again you might just barely slip away with it because everyone gets a free chance. It’s up to you I would say it is a risky move especially because Roblox has a zero-tolerance policy with stuff like gambling. Here is some stuff I pulled from the TOS.

1 Do not implement any gambling or casino style games that involve real money in any way. This includes Robux, as Robux can be purchased for real money. Games should also be fair and not be skewed in the developer’s favor .

  1. Dangerous, unethical and illegal activities. Not only do we not allow these activities, we do not allow anyone discussing them or encouraging others to discuss (or take) such actions, including:
  • Hacking, phishing, flaming, exploits, cheating, spam, deceptive practices, scams;
  • Misleading, sexual or racy thumbnails or other images, videos or text;
  • Gambling with Robux or real money;
  • Terrorism, Nazism or Neo Nazism, organized criminal activity, gangs and gang violence;
  • Instructions for engaging in violent activities, including bomb- or weapon-making
  • Criminal activity;
  • Illegal drugs or prescription drugs without a prescription;
  • The use or sale of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco by minors; and
  • Blackmail or extortion.

This also includes in-game money. Roblox considers gambling unethical so any sort of gambling will result in your game and account being reprimanded similar to the plaza.

Oh that clears things up. I guess I’ll have to scratch out the lottery idea. I wasn’t really a big fan of the concept in the first place.

On a side note, isn’t The Plaza still open until this day? I was playing with their slots a few days ago.
