Studio always thinks my place has changed and prompts me to save changes, when it hasn't changed

Issue Type: Other
Impact: High
Frequency: Constantly
Date First Experienced: 2021-04-18 00:04:00 (-04:00)
Date Last Experienced: 2021-04-22 11:04:00 (-04:00)

Reproduction Steps:
7886458a340133e3b1a92d65970e9977
I am unsure what causes this. It occurs in all of my places. I do not use Team Create, it still occurs with all plugins disabled.

  1. Open a published place
  2. Don’t change anything
  3. Close the place
  4. Observe it wants to save your non-existent changes

Expected Behavior:
I should only be prompted to save changes if I have made changes.
I am not sure if this is a new intentional change or a bug, but it is incredibly annoying to my workflow when using universes.

Actual Behavior:
I am told to save my place before closing. There’s nothing new to save.

Workaround:
Click “Save”.

This workaround is not viable if you open a template though.

Mind if I ask what happens when you press save instead of discard? Does the game just close, or does it open your files?

It says “applying script changes”, saves to the cloud, and then closes. Some of these places don’t even have scripts.

It looks to resolve the issue in most cases, but I’m extremely confused as to why every game I own seems to think every place in it has changed.

Hello, I am unable to repro this, can you provide me a repro place? Maybe the issue occurs because of something you do in every place.

Are you sure you don’t have any local plugins enabled in addition to user plugins? Do you have any beta features enabled?

I still experience it.

This is likely the best repro place for me:

It’s a starter template from 2009 that I have neither opened nor edited since 2013. When I try to close it, it thinks I’ve changed something.

I have no local plugins. With all beta features off I still experience this.

Wait, does this only happen to old places that you have not saved to recently? This will of course always happen to old games because the datamodel has gone through restructuring and things have had other changes over time, all of which need to be reflected into the place, which naturally counts as an unsaved change.

No. It occurs in places that I have modified as recently as two weeks ago.
It’s acting as though every place I own seems to have some sort of AutoUpdate package that retrieved an update or something.

However, it even does this for opening and closing the default templates.

This appears to be fixed as of sometime within the past month. :woman_shrugging:

It is occuring for me too, the same reproduction process. Open a place, do nothing (not even change camera position), when trying to close it prompts to save changes
