Studio Beta: CSG Has a New Engine - Vroom, Vroom, Vroom!

I feel like this should temporarily be taken out of beta until its unexpected crash issues are resolved, It seems like even with the simplest unions it still crashes your studio.

It is a nice update that we’ve all been requesting for over the years but its beta release might of been a bit rushed or a few things were overlooked during development which is resulting in these unexpected crashes.

i cant union anything without instantly crashing.

how do i send it via discord or smthg?? mine is Jin mori#5972 if discord

CSG Version 3 crashes studio when a smoothing angle is changed. Yesterday, I unioned a frame consisting of 5 metal parts colored “Dark Stone Grey”. What I got did not really please my eyes as it was not solid “Dark Stone Grey”, so I decided to mess up with the “smoothing angle” in a hope to fix the issue I had. When I changed it to 1 and quickly reverted to 0, studio has crashed.

Thank you.

I have 2 suggestions:

  • Mesh Unioning Support (Including SpecialMeshes)
  • Lighting Fixes

I’m sure there’s already feature request about this a long time ago

That’s a lighting artifact, it will be fixed pretty much soon

CSG can cause weird shadow glitches with a negate part implemented.

today i had a prob with this
whenever i try to combine parts together using union the studio crashed
when i disabled csg v3
i could combine parts with no studio crashing

Does this restore previously disappeared unions as well?

@JoshSedai Tested in studio. Noticed improved performance.

In our driving game have been using invisible colliders that were placed above roads and tracks to improve performance. There is a bug in live game, and in studio with this new CSG engine as well, where simple square collider (4 vertexes) has “hole” inside of it, when using Default CF (with Hull it’s even worse), so the driving experience is not good due bumpy roads and tracks.

Ouch…

Yeah well the new system is just way beyond broken… hopefully it gets fixed soon…

I’ve noticed a bug with this beta. This union I made can no longer be separated, and any negations I add to it ruin the union entirely. Shown below is the error and the before and after of a negation.

Another bug to fix; Triangles breaking with unions.

Unfortunately not, there’s a post on how to get them back though if I remember correctly. Look it up on Google.

Will there be a fix at some point so our CSG V2 unions can work, as they crash studio whenever you try to use them.

The engine needs some improvements as shown on the picture.

Last picture explained:

  • Didn’t merge the left top parts into the normal part
  • Created some weird lines on the bottom left and top right side.

I assume this is a bug?

I’ve also tested the bugs reported above. It seems that all of these bugs are caused by rendering problems in the new CSG engine.

From what @DevJanick mentioned, Studio Beta: CSG Has a New Engine - Vroom, Vroom, Vroom! - #102 by DevJanick didn’t have the negated parts merged onto the normal part.

Thank You!

Now I won’t have to search through the autosaves that studio creates to find an uncorrupted version of the union.

Hi, would you mind sending us the models for which CSG V3 did not succeed? We are more than interested in fixing these issues.
