[Studio Beta] Introducing VR Emulator

This will save hours of playtesting… aswell as my head from putting the headset on and off

Would be nice to have the emulator inside of the Roblox Player

Totally agreed, this tool was created to make it easier to develop and iterate on these devices but is not a replacement for developing for and testing on real devices. This is true for all devices: headsets, controllers, phones and tablets.

Emulation is in all cases by design using somewhat different code paths than real devices.

The good news is that we’re actively looking at improving the on-device testing workflow as well.

this is such an amazing update. please add more of these W features to Studio like new UI components

WAIT WHAT

roblox please stop, you’re puttting out too many useful features! the community might soon run out of something to complain about (wouldn’t that be awesome! :D)

Just wanted to point out that the move features for the emulator are not framerate independent. Setting your FPS to anything above 60 results in a noticeable difference in speed when moving your headset and controllers about.

Roblox has been cooking with these updates recently like what

I love that feature! wasnt able to afford vr myself and this dropped :smiling_face_with_tear:I’m very happy.

A couple things i want to clarify,

  1. i still cannot get the head movement and controller rotation right. I’ve tried shift with mouse but it doesnt work.
  2. And can you make option to move the controllers with the head?

Wow, this came out just when I needed it

after testing this - im addicted, how helpful this is.

i have a laptop which cant use oculus quest link - so i had to publish the game every time and then test it on my standalone.

now i don’t have to :joy:

thank you so much!

YAYYYYY Now I don’t have to put on my vr headset every time I want to test something very small, which was a very cumbersome thing to do because I have really little desk space to put away my headset on standby

Thank you so much. My teammates get sick when testing in VR so having this here will let us QA our games without running them fully in VR when making minor changes.

Hi, thank you for the kind words! For the head movement, have you tried to lock the mouse first with Alt / Option + 1, then moving the head with the mouse? In the mouse lock mode, currently you can switch between controllers using SHIFT + Left / Right. Unlock the mouse with Alt / Option + 1.

For moving the controllers with the head: we’re working on that one right now.

Thank you!

Hello, it doesnt work. I still didnt get the controls. Prob it tries to lock my mouse but it’s getting released. And it broke my camera in studio.

I use Windows 11 and new studio UI

Thanks for giving it a go, I’ll file a ticket for this issue and we’ll look at fixing it.

To sum up what you’re seeing:

  • You’re using “Next Gen Studio UI”
  • With Device / Meta Quest 3 you’re unable to “lock” the mouse using Alt + 1
  • Once the emulation is over, your camera is broken

One more question: Do you have any other Betas enabled?

Thank you!

So yes, i have everything enabled besides New lua type solver and Assistant.

Tho i’ve noticed recently my studio began crashing very often and i have no idea why.

There was 1 script that broke the entire studio. It was in game explorer (it was running only in the game). It crashed my studio ~ 5-10 times when i tried to do Find All Ctrl + Shift + F even tho i havent started the game.

I tried reinstalling the studio but the issue stays. So i just deleted the script.
Without it something still periodically crahes when i press play

I have also been having studio crashing lately - for no reason at all (unrelated to VR tho).
All I was trying to do was learn some UI with scripting (on a brand new file).

So I am wondering if it has something to do with a recent Studio update.

I too am a Beta tester (have most enabled - except New Gen Studio Beta).

Thought somehow I was crashing UI with my script (thought impossible).

(UPDATE)
Seems my crashes vanished after I disabled a few plugins.
Haven’t nailed which one it was yet - but at least it was not a Studio problem.

This is the best emulator update!

Thanks for your response, we already have several tickets filed on Find Replace All and are actively working on fixing this area. Hopefully you’ll see updates about this in the upcoming months.

Not sure about the other crashes, but we could check it out if you could send me your Studio logs in a DM.

Thank you!
