Studio camera performance drops the longer an instance of Studio is open

Information

This issue has been going on for at least a couple years now but has been getting progressively worse within the recent year.

When I open up a window of Studio the camera works fine no matter the place I edit in but the longer the window is open the camera starts lagging more as I move or rotate the camera. Panning the camera (middle mouse button) does not seem to be affected by this lag. When keeping the camera still there is no issue with other parts of studio lagging. Edit quality level does not seem to influence this issue.

I know for a fact it is happening in one of my game’s testing areas here.

Studio’s memory is also very high for some reason, more than Google Chrome, getting even higher when playing solo.

Reproduction steps:

  1. Open studio in any game and wait at least an hour while using it.
  2. Move or rotate the camera around. You will notice that there’s many small lag spikes that occur when doing it.

Other information:

Microprofiler dump: microprofile-20200526-210825.html (7.1 MB) (I notice that Worker::runJob and Write Marshalled have a ~30ms wait time)

System Information:
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
Memory: 16.0 GB

I re-downloaded Studio and wiped all of my plugins but I’m still having the same issue.

This post is being marked as solved, as the root of the issue for me was having hundreds of BillboardGuis under packages in ReplicatedStorage, not having a Studio instance open for longer. and there’s another report for this. I have since switched to another solution.
