Studio Crashing with Some Autofill Statements

Studio crashes on specific autofills, so far I’ve had it occur with SetAttribute, and GetAttribute, seems to have started happening after the last patch around an hour ago.

Exact same issue, different auto fill. Studio fails to autofill anything, then a moment later closes just like OP’s issue. No noticeable pattern, just at random. I was accessing a variable in a module script.

It still crashes, i can provide the memory dump file and logs and copy of game through a private message if you reach out to me.

If only Studio was crashing …

Once I open my place (which has two vehicles and a few scripts in it and is saved locally) the RAM goes even higher than 8 GB. If I do not touch the Studio, it goes down to 2,5 GB after a while. Autofill does not show up at all for me. When I start typing a few words, RAM starts raising again. It is irregular though.

First I thought it was due to the fact that I updated from 23H2 to 24H2 (Win 11) but Studio still keeps crashing even after going back to 23H2.

To describe how it usually looks, I have my Studio opened, then a chat app where I am in a Voice Chat and streaming my screen and then I have my Spotify playing (so definitelly there is some stress on my PC but it usually handles everything perfectly even without the extensive need to cool the processor). If I manage to break the stuff somehow, usually after typing a few chars and waiting for autofill to show up, the first thing that one can notice is the sound (music) lagging. It makes that really uncomfortable sound and then everything is silent. I usually open the chat app to see whether I really can hear nothing or not (as sometimes it does not break and my friends are silent) but then the chat app crashes. If I try to go back to Studio again, it does not maximise (after clicking on the Roblox Studio icon on the bottom Windows bar) and after a while the Studio also crashes. If I repeat this, I usually get a black screen and possibly a “blue death” with the “CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED” error message.

After this happened to me the first time (I think 24H2 already) I wanted to check whether it was occasional or not and while “testing”, I managed to save the place (which is saved on my PC) a few times. That place now seems to crash sooner than one containing maybe ten times more stuff and which is saved directly on Roblox. I cannot tell whether this is a coincidence or not.

I do not think the autofill is completely broken as when I opened the bigger place again today to try whether it still happens (after going back from 24H2 to 23H2) and had to leave my computer for a while, it did show up after typing a variable name after I got back to my PC. I was too excited to check for the Studio crashing though as I closed it and went to try the other, smaller place which, sadly, crashed again.

The Studio started crashing like this 3-4 days back for me. I was checking whether it still happens and why it happens so many times that I do not remember exactly after what was a black screen and after what the screen freezed etc. yet I hope this helps a little bit.

Sounds like a windows or driver related issue. I’d make sure your drivers are up to date and if it continues to happen then there might be something corrupted in windows. If you game outside of roblox, do those run fine?

I wanted to check my drivers but ended up reinstalling whole Windows. I had to reinstall it from scratch as factory reset didn’t work so now I am at Win 24H2. All drivers are downloaded and up to date. I have also turned off the fullscreen optimalization as stated in this article but Roblox Studio is still freaking out when I open local place. And we are hitting records of 10 GB :joy: (see image from Task Manager, second column)

It is really interesting that today I had two really big places opened in Roblox Studio (one with 323,610 BaseParts and the other one with 204,185 BaseParts) and I had played Roblox (game) at the same time and everything was fine (the memory got hight of course but not that high and no apps were crashing). But now I have opened my local place and this happens. It is sad. (And I also think it is no longer related to autofill but not sure about this … I do not recall editing any scripts in the two large relations).

Edit: seems like it is place specific, trying to find out why (new place did not this memory leak and after deleting almost everything from the one that does this and then reopening Studio the memory also stopped raising)
