Studio Fast Travel [Free Plugin for Developers]

New
Greetings everybody!

Tired of flying around your game to one location only to fly back the opposite way to another? Well stop!

This free plugin will allow you to:

  • Save locations for both your studio camera and your playtesting avatar to teleport to.
  • Name locations for easier finding later
  • Search for locations in the list of saved locations
  • Quick teleport your studio camera to a non-saved location you CTRL + MouseButton3 on.
  • Share saved locations with your team create collaborators
  • Separate Global (GameID) and Local (PlaceID) locations
  • Get notified when an update to this plugin is available

Saved locations will only appear in the games you saved them to, and if you save a location with the same name as another it will add a “(#)” after it’s name. Where ‘#’ is replaced with how many copies of that name there are.

This plugin does NOT work with games that have not been published. It will only work with games with a valid GameID and places with a valid PlaceID.

If you have any suggestions or feedback please let me know but without further ado, the Studio Fast Travel plugin!

Interesting plugin, and I may get it, though what’s the difference between finding a part in that area and pressing F?

There are a few things that make it different than that.

  • You’d always have locations saved in the game to teleport to, instead of having to find a part in the area to Focus on.
  • Using it while Playtesting the game, you can teleport your character to those saved locations. Pressing F to focus doesn’t do this in playtesting mode.
  • You can share those saved locations with your team create collaborators

Oh, then cool plugin bro. 100% gonna get it now.

As a builder, I have got to admit that it’s troubling getting to some spaces more than once.

This will help so much! Thanks :)))

Intuitive thinking!

The default “Play Here” behavior can be nice when you’re play testing in a similar area, but it becomes very difficult to scale large maps with the camera, to the point where you have to turn up the Camera speed just to fly back to another place.

I can see the thought process with this plugin, and I wish further luck with the development of it. I’ll be sure to get it myself!

Keep at it

super well-thought-out plugin! Definitely giving this one a shot.
Just a quick question though, how come this doesn’t work with games that have no GameID?

This plugin is actually saving these locations to your plugin settings.

Due to the nature of how plugin settings work, if I saved them just to a singular list, the locations would appear in every game you used this plugin in.

To counter this, I am saving the setting to a specific name + the gameID. Otherwise games without a valid gameID would not be able to save to different lists. I.e. UnpublishedGame1 would have the same list as UnpublishedGame2.

Maybe I’ll add a toggle to be able to do this or maybe I’ll find a different workaround for it in a future update because I know some unpublished games could really use it.

Interesting solution, I do appreciate the consideration for a probably future workaround or fix for this. Again, great plugin

This plugin has been updated. Global (GameID) and Local (PlaceID) saves are now separated into two sections. The plugin will now also notify you when an update for the plugin is available.
