Studio frequently crashes seconds after Play Testing

This is awfully strange, but I’m glad to know I’m not the only one experiencing this issue.

While studio is loading the playtest, the memory usage for the program climbs as high as 6100 MB before freezing my entire pc.

In the below instance, the memory usage shown was the final number it displayed before my pc became entirely unresponsive.

In the most recent instance I also saw that the memory usage on studio climbed to around 6000 MB. (It was at 2070 GB before I began playtesting.)
The memory usage then went back down to ~1700 MB and still continued to crash my pc.

I assume it has something to do with loading the playtest since every single time my pc froze, it stopped at 75% loading.

for me studio consumed up to 12GB of memory during playtesting and eventually panicked at bad allocation

i’d also like to add that recovery files do not generate for some reason, i’ve seriously lost around 2 hours of work because of this

… though that can be attributed to me using grapejuice instead of running studio natively on windows

Also getting an issue, just loaded up a 1-player local server and got 20GB of RAM usage from it, bypassed it by can imagine if you are running on a 16GB PC that’s going to destroy it.

Once again another studio update which makes things worse rather than better

This is bad. I’m getting a similar issue here.

Studio will half of the time end up freezing while play testing from a horrible memory leak, using basically my entire system memory. I can’t even use google chrome or any other programs.

After a few moments you will also be greeted with this error message:

I cannot seem to be able to work on my game without losing progress, or without saving every time I make a little change.

Experiencing this as well. Same “bad allocation” error. Only happens about 60% of the time when I’m loading a local server.

I’m experiencing the same thing too.
I thought it was normal but I didn’t know it was this serious.

It got to the point where it would shut down my PC and my Desktop Fans would spin so fast.

It makes a sound of an Airplane engine ready to take off.

For the past 1-2 days after a strange random studio update, I wasn’t able to playtest a Local Server in Studio to test multiplayer / third-person features. I can’t express how infuriating this is, this is stalling my workflow for a project I’m working on. Studio takes so much of your memory unnecessarily while running, it would be great if any engineers can explain this huge memory usage.
I tried reinstalling Studio and restarting my computer, these steps did no effect on stopping this issue I’m facing.

My specs are:
8 GB of RAM
AMD Ryzen 5 3500 6-Core Processor 3.59 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Super.

My computer shouldn’t struggle running Roblox Studio.

it’s a roblox issu i think
boopbeepbop

Kind of relieving this isn’t just a me thing–I was worried my laptop was having some serious problems. Hopefully this gets patched soon!

Same problem this week: “bad allocation”. All plugins disabled, empty Baseplate. After pressing the Play button, Roblox Studio occupies all memory within seconds.

Temporary solution: GitHub - IgorMundstein/WinMemoryCleaner: This free RAM cleaner uses native Windows features to clear memory areas. Sometimes, programs do not release the allocated memory, making the computer slow. That is when you use Windows Memory Cleaner to optimize the memory, so you can keep working without wasting time restarting your system.

Press the Optimize button ~3 seconds after clicking the Start button in Roblox Studio.

Seems like a roblox issue that needs to be addressed quickly, haven’t really found a work around it either so we’ll have to wait till roblox fixes it.

me AND my friend have been having this issue after the new studio update, it crashes my entire computer due to its ram not being too high and its so annoying!

I see this problem I think this problem reson is your computers healt.

I’m having this issue too. every time i try to playtest I get the “Bad Allocation” error using 100% of my CPU and RAM. I have tried reinstalling studio and still nothing. I am currently unable to work on my game (playtesting is important!) because of this problem.

I am using Windows 11 and I have 16GB of ram. My CPU has 8 cores.

If anyone can, could they please start a new thread because this thread started 2 years ago so if we are going to get the Roblox employee attention we are going to need a new thread

Hi all, closing out these kinds of mega-threads - we’re looking to get 1:1 assignment on closures - many of these show up as “top crashes” on our end and we resolve them then. If you’re having a persistent crash with specific, reproable behavior, please submit a new bug and make sure to submit a log so we can track your bug with the noise. Thanks!
