Studio Update Window Assumes Studio is not Installed

Upon installing a new update for studio, the update window assumes that studio is no longer installed on my computer.

If I can recall correctly, the bug started happening about 3-4 months ago.

  • Update window text shows “Installing Roblox Studio …” instead of “Updating Roblox Studio …”
  • A new desktop icon for Roblox Studio is created on the desktop (updating did not do this previously)

This is what the update window looks like, the photo isn’t much proof as it’s quite hard to capture this exact moment. I’m currently trying to get a screen recording on my other computer.

System Information:
Windows 10 Pro
Version 1909 - 18363.592

Edit:
The bug is not happening on my other computer, so I cannot provide any screen recording at the moment :stuck_out_tongue:

The shortcut on the desktop is really frustrating. I like to keep it clean, so I’d appreciate it not doing that. Reproducible on my desktop (Windows 10 Home 1909) and Surface Laptop 2 (also Windows 10 Home 1909)

Can also be reproduced on Windows 7 Professional, and it also annoys me because one of the first things I do when I install ROBLOX is to delete the desktop icons. Quite irritating to have to do it every week currently.

Update

I noticed that this only happens when you start studio from the start menu. I believe this is because the application linked in the start menu programs list is linked to the studio installer application, not studio itself.

The application it is linked to:
