Stylized Grass (Blender/Roblox default grass)

Been concepting for a game I might want to make and ended up making some cool grass. It is pretty laggy but I do have a lot of grass, would be easy to make more performant. Although when you face the other direction it does look a bit odd, as you can see in the second picture. I manually moved all the normals for the custom grass to face upward and out. I did this because the game I’m thinking of doing is going to have a locked camera so it won’t really matter.

I also used a surface light along with future lighting to get a nice looking gradient on the Roblox default grass. It would be great if we could customize terrain materials also, that’s a bit unrelated but it would really help break the roblox feel.

If anyone wants to know more on how I did this just ask and I’ll show how I did it in the comments

Stylized trees and then stylized grass?! :flushed:

Can I see the surface light you placed over the grass? The gradient looks nice.

Sure! I used a surface light on the bottom, so it would be tricky to do if the terrain wasn’t flat but.

This is how I did it:

(without the light)

That looks very nice! I’ll try that out this weekend. :sunglasses:

This looks really good, you should turn it into a mesh (or union) to save part usage. And maybe maybe a Community Tutorial on this, I’d love to implement this grass into future games, and many others would also! @Eth_r

It’s actually a mix of meshes and roblox grass, the meshes were pretty dense. I could make it look similar with less meshes. Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow. It’s actually super easy and meshes only make it look better, though they do have to match the color

Here is the game if you wanna see it in game:

I did not make the rocks in the back or the character itself, just set it all up. It’s all just testing ways to look unique I suppose.
