Suggestion: badges for solutions

Discourse Meta has some badges for accepted solutions.

I propose the DevForum also add badges for this purpose to further encourage people to help in #development-support and provide constructive comments.

The badges may encourage users to contribute more solutions, however these won’t necessarily be constructive. People who are capable of solving certain issues already do so without a badge. More specifically, it will be encouraging people who may not be able to, which in turn increases low quality contributions and misinformation on technical threads.

We try to avoid enabling badges that can easily be gamed or stimulate gaming, since this is a much younger community than the Discourse meta, and this is one of those types of badges.

It could also encourage users who are the OP to make a new reply just to mark as the solution (which I personally find really annoying when you’ve just spent 30 minutes drafting up a full tutorial and script for them).

We have got badge respected, and for it, I just need 3 secondary profiles, and enough time to like every reply.

I would not recommend doing that because that will lead to being swiftly permanently banned from the forum on all of those accounts.

Ok, but same its with solution badge. And how can you as community sage detect this. When he have laptop, clasic pc, mobile and tablet, its undetectable.

I can’t, but any moderator or staff will be able to find out trivially that someone has been doing that. Discourse has really powerful admin features.

Which is why we’re not adding them because they’re too easy to game and do not stimulate the right behavior from users. Solutions are given out willy-nilly in development support and not always to the actual best solution.

In this i agree, but problem is, that new members dont know, what mark as solution. It will be a good idea, to put this into crtificated badge tutorial.

I know how to program web, and you have no power to catch user on 2 single devices using VPN.

Also for solution badge, you must have both account new members+, for like respected badge, just 1 account must be new member+ and the other one can be visitor. Also solution badge is checkeale, if it is ok, likes cant be checked, if they are cheated or obtained by some visitor, that likes almost every post. And last argument is, that when i am getting respected badge, I can have more than 3 accounts so it will be undetecteable, when i am trying to get solution badge, i must obtain new member for every fake account, and that is much harder.

There are other ways to link accounts apart from just IP.

When I say “gaming” of a badge I don’t just mean cheating it with your own accounts. I’m meaning that it stimulates forum behavior that is undesirable, there will be too much focus on whoever can get the solution on a topic. This is worse for solutions than likes because likes are not limited to 1 per topic.
