Suggestions on what to include for a remake

I’m not sure if this is the right category but oh well, we’ll see.

Hello, my fellow developers! So recently me and a group of friends were going through some old games and projects I made, and we stumbled upon probably the biggest project I publicly released: a story game dubbed “Adventure”, which had one chapter, about a girl named Katie and her birthday party which went wrong! (who could’ve guessed???!).

Summarization of the plot in the original game

You go to your friend Katie’s house along with 8 other guests to celebrate her birthday party. The day is a blast, but then a storm hits during the afternoon, leaving you all stranded at her house, forcing you to spend the night over (sleepover yippee!!).

However, during the late night, as you all are chilling watching TV, a murderer breaks in! Now you run into the basement (where all the things and places that shouldn’t belong in a normal suburban house, like a warehouse or obstacle course, just happen to be) and uhh BOOM murderer loses you win ez

The issue with it is that it was made when I was 11 years old, with about 6 months of development experience to my name, and also the game was horribly rushed to get it out by Halloween. I really am not proud of it. So what I want to do is go ahead and remake it! Make it something I’d actually be proud of!

Now, see, story games are virtually dead, considering many of them follow the same plot, as if the structure of the plot is the key to success (spoiler: it isn’t). So I want to see what you guys think I should add (or try to add) so that people will have a fun time playing, even if it isn’t “popular” or “blowing up”.

What we've decided to add

The game is planned to have about 4 chapters at the moment, and the last 2 are not important at this stage, but to start, Chapters 1-3 will have multiple endings, and one shall be the “true ending” that leads into the next chapter. For Chapter 1, it’s extremely simple and you’ve seen it before:

Good ending: murderer gets arrested
Bad ending: players are killed by murderer
True ending: players kill murderer, and now they have to run away to prevent capture by the police, leading into Chapter 2.

Development thus far

Neighborhood:

More neighborhood:

Katie’s house (we’ll furnish it later, ok?):

If there is anything more you would like to know or see, please ask and you shall receive! I think I’ve said all that’s important, but who knows?

Have a lovely day!

gee looks like you could put that neighborhood in a liminal space game  anyways I don’t have much too say besides try to keep It interesting because there a lot of other games like that.

I’d say add a lobby, like Doors/Radiant Residence/The Mimic.

Are you going for a horror theme, or no?

No. I want tension, sure, but I’m not trying to get players all frightened and stuff with this game. Really, my main goal is to give them characters and a plot to be invested in (alongside having decently fun gameplay, of course).
