Sunsetting User-to-User Inbox Messaging

Well, if you want to talk to me you will have to cuz I ain’t checking my messages page, its only purpose is spam.

You have to adapt to modern features, as nobody will use outdated and awful features just so you are more comfortable, especially not in the serious dev environment, where everybody communicates on third-party apps.

You can disable your inbox. Roblox isn’t even deleting the feature. They are just disabling the message system between users. So it will still be there but only for Roblox to message us.

Hey, you are not the only user in the world, just because you dont use it doesn’t mean nobody use it. Stop rage baiting please.

Hey, is Roblox who’s disabling messaging, not me, I’m just supporting their decision. Of course, some people use it, when I said nobody, I’m just ignoring those tiny percentage of people who do use it, and it is not just based on my own experience, but on what Roblox said.

And why did you interpret my message as rage-baiting? I will put it in other words: You may not want to go off-site to message someone, but right now, you have no choice, it’s just the way it’s done.

this is literally the only spam i could find in my inbox so removing it because of spam/“safety” is just an exaggeration

Roblox is keeping the message tab, but only for Roblox to message you. What does it hurt to allow users to use it?

Your statistics and claims of “low usage” are skewed by inactive accounts, extreme platform growth, young users who don’t care about messaging, and new users who simply don’t know about it because Roblox oh-so-conveniently disables the ability for them to be messaged by default.

A lot of the users who actually use messages understand that it’s best practice to use it only for important matters, which is why it’s barely used - but when it IS used, that one message usually ends up being more valuable than 10,000 random texts. The more I think about it, it’s illogical to even consider deleting a message system just because it’s barely used - that’s like saying emergency lines should be removed from phones because their “usage statistics” are lower than witty banter through texting.

Also, who in their right minds is going to use a forum hidden within a group that is burdened by Roblox censoring, risk of account deletion for every post through auto-moderation, and with a bunch of likely arbitrary limits placed on it when people can just use off-platform communications? It isn’t going to be any “safer”, either - because this will simply drive people to steer all the children toward better communication options, and at best the system will just devolve into a dumb marketing page like most Groups have currently become.

The most important factor for the new forums though, developers have already cultivated massive userbases, placed large investments in, and observe much higher creative freedom on off-platform services like Discord or Guilded. There simply isn’t a market for this new feature, and because it splinters people around unlike the original Roblox Forums it barely has a niche while Group Wall exists (just make Group Wall better by giving the option to change a comment to a “Discussion”/“Thread”, and add a Thread Search feature?)

this is a bad idea. it may not be used often but there is no replacement for this system yet and being able to reach out to people directly is a very useful feature. don’t remove this.

This sounds good to me. I almost forgot messages existed.

not true at all
i have my DMs disabled on discord for all but a few small servers

I mean, even if you have DMs disabled, how does that make my statement untrue?

And not only Discord btw, but also Twitter.

Also, I meant using it for feedback or commission requests, which are the reasons you would DM somebody who’s not your friend.

I’m glad they’ve done this. It makes it easier to see important messages IMO + reduces the risk of scams

they can just make a filter for messages. cutting all forms of communication isn’t safety it’s just bad infrastructure

If spam can be identified, why not make a separate inbox for spam and keep the normal inbox for everything else?

I don’t know man this all sounds like a skill issue on Roblox’s end. Hey anybody remember Sets? This kinda reminds me of that.

with removing compatibility and now this, it seems like roblox is trying to get rid of stuff from their past again :pensive:

not even true
ive had people literally contact me over random development assets ive made asking for support

My god, of course, there are more reasons to DM somebody but can we just ignore the niche ones?

Yeah, you an individual user have DMs disabled on discord but that doesn’t mean everybody have it disabled, doesn’t it?

I also have assets and plugins with decent popularity, but I have only received DMs regarding them like, twice in many years?

Also, right now there exists the ability to make reviews in assets and plugins and include social links.

Roblox didn’t say exactly zero people use DMs anyway, and I didn’t either.

Will the Crown of O’s message thing still be sent through this system?

Not everyone knows how to use or even CAN use devforum, dude. There is no reason to sunset this whatsoever, and the “alternative” is not sufficient.
