Support for Wingdings font

As a Roblox developer, it is currently impossible to use the Wingdings font, because it doesn’t exist on the platform!

I’d love support for the font, as most importantly, it allows us to use the icons for UI, as since the text doesn’t lose quality, it essentially acts as a vector.

Thanks!

Yeah OP, you can use emojis, I’m pretty sure. That ought to fulfil your needs, and you can use it in the same text boxes as other text.

This would be a really good feature for all the undertale fan games on roblox, so that people can roleplay as gaster :yum:.

Wingdings 3 could come in handy for the arrows.

I don’t think it’s right to use these kinds of text fonts as symbols in game development. I remember using the > and < keys to represent arrows in my guis, but I opted out of that because I can make higher quality images that actually look like arrows.

We already have emojis. We don’t need another separate source of symbols.

It’s a decent concept, but I’d rather have a new font without symbols over this.

There’s one key issue with emoji I feel don’t quite leave it working for Younite’s goal.

All of Roblox’s emoji files are raster-based images, and not vector-based.

Of the Wingdings characters, many of them already have an emoji counterpart. I think if Roblox were to swap these out for vectors, the request mentioned here would be solved without needing an additional font, but I’m not sure how much of a hurdle that would be to implement.

that may or may not have been a factor in this, hehe

The reason why I suggested it was that we could have a font that allows developers to use symbols easily without making them. Wingdings has a whole bunch of them, and unlike emojis, they’re just the one colour.

I get that, but are all of the symbols useful in one way or another? I don’t really expect anyone to use even half of the symbols that it provides. I’d rather have a font with alphanumerical text, something that everyone will want to use every character of, instead of a font that people are only going to utilize a fraction of the available characters.

Is there a font out there you recommend?
