Swimming with hats is no longer possible

A few days ago, swimming behavior was modified to prevent jumping in terrain water. I’m all for this (since it doesn’t make any sense to ‘jump’ underwater), but this caused a pretty large problem with swimming.

If you have too many hats equipped (2-3+?), swimming upwards isn’t possible. You’ll just sink to the bottom and won’t be able to get up. I’m pretty sure this behavior is the same as before, but without jumping, this is now a lot more important because people who weigh too much will get stuck.

You can reproduce this by opening a place and trying to swim in terrain water with a few hats equipped.

On a side note, it would be nice to remove weight differences entirely to prevent future issues like this

nooo you can’t jump while swimming?

you can do that weird fish on dry land anymore. :frowning:

Yes it would be really nice to have hats not count as weight. also sort of thought that as weird.

Can confirm. With a lot of accessories on, this is me holding space to swim upwards (if I don’t hold space I sink):

With less accessories on, this me me holding nothing (I naturally float):

Yet another reason why accessories shouldn’t affect character physics.

This is also affected by R15’s differently weighted meshparts.

The change so that you can’t jump in water anymore is awesome. Kudos to whoever did that.

The fact that accessories aren’t entirely ignored by the physics engine should be considered a bug.

If that’s off the table, at least the buoyancy calculations should ignore accessories that are attached to a HumanoidRootPart.

We are looking into what’s causing the issue with hats and swimming. It’s definitely a bug. Characters with and without hats should move the same in and out of water.

Are different sized-packages affecting a player’s ability to swim, as Maelstronomer mentioned, part of the problem as well, or is that intended?

Was this change reverted?

This change was reverted to fix this bug, it will be enabled again when the issue is fixed.
