Take The Lead [Beta] - looking for testers, free release: dec 17th

hello, i’ve been working on this project for 14 months, and its finally ready for open testing.

it is a “pet collection”, adventure game, with combat and harvesting mechanics known from other roblox games.

there are 16 companions to collect and level up, each with its own “evolved ability” that can be unlocked.

all enemies drop coin, scrolls and tickets, with bosses dropping more than regular enemies.

Did you make this game by yourself, or did you hire other people? The models in the screenshots look really good!

thanks, I’ve made everything myself - I have worked a few years as a graphical artist in movies/commercials, and then 3 years in mobile game development.(working as a rigger + vfx artist)
most humanoid models use animations from the catalogue, and clothing accessories are from the avatar shop, so I could focus on modelling weapons / trees, UI and only a few custom rigs(which are very time consuming.)
Scripting required an additional education which i completed earlier this year :sweat_smile:

90% of the sounds are from the toolbox, a few of them needed a little editing.
most enemies use bodymovers to move, jump/spin/fly

Really nice looking game. I think when you have killed an NPC, it should spawn pickups for the player to collect, as otherwise there is little for the player to do. The game environment looks great

A few pointers from testing:

  1. Nothing happens when I enter the Sell area. Ah, after playing and chopping a tree down I see it does it automatically, but there’s no feedback to show it has happened like sounds or particles or a UI.
  2. NPCs when first attacked, fire, before turning to face your pet. Perhaps make it turn before firing so it looks more realistic.
  3. How do I level my pet up?
  4. I thought Hermit crabs don’t attack back, but it just seems like there is no visible attack animation or particle to them.
  5. Some terrain slopes are difficult to jump up (near the clouds). Is the max slope on Humanoid lower then the standard 89?
  6. Took me a while to find the Companions icon. Perhaps a quick tutorial to show people wheat they need to do would be good.
  7. Wood chopping, has no axe tool wielded or suitable animation, it just seems to be a punch.
  8. I cant tell if the coins are the “Companion Tokens” that I need to use to upgrade my pets. I have a few now, but it still says I don’t have enough.
  9. After opening scroll giving a new pet/companion, highlight the button with some exciting effects.
  10. Music, something calm and soothing.
  11. SPHINX! Cool pet, cool animations
  12. I like the way the bee emits green particles as he heals. Other pets don’t seem to be doing this

Its obvious you have spent a lot of time making this and it really shows in the quality., I just think there are a few small niggly game play issues to make it more engaging to people that need to be sorted.

5. : yeah slope angle is less than standard
I’m thinking of making quest chains, or a tutorial, some things aren’t explained well enough, especially regarding tokens/level up and all that.
there shouldn’t be any confusion here, so ill look into that for sure, along with all the other points
