Tank tracks for T-14 Armata

Here’s a tank-track system like the one in armoured patrol I’ve been working on for a group:

Asking for ratings and reviews, thanks

I’m currently trying to make something like this. Did you use physics constraints or your own implementation updating the CFrames of the track segments in a step (I assume the wheels use a suspension system with constraints, but it is also possible you made your own suspension system as well)? Looks very nice, a lot smoother than what I’ve made so far or on Armored Patrol.

It’s constraint based, I tried making one like it a few months ago and it didn’t turn out quite how I wanted it to, I tried using CFrame but it’s not really a strong point of mine.

I use CFrames because I cannot figure out for the life of me how to do it with constraints. I’ve tried so many things. Do you have each track segment linked with hinge constraints with a proxy part (so each track segment is connected to a part between it and the next segment, not directly to each other), then somehow connect each proxy part to the wheel directly above it to translate the up and down movement of the wheel to part, and thus the track segments? That’s the only way I can think of how to do it, but I can’t get it right.

Random question, but does the tank require more than 1 player to operate?
I used to do ww2 tanks for groups way back in 2014, with multi crew (you know, that one m4 model everyone uses). I’m considering revitalizing them if people actually want multi-crew

Pretty much, thats how it works.

We were trying to decide between a 3 and 4 man crew, stuck with 3: Driver, Gunner, Commander.

hooray! my design decision from 5 years ago has influenced the meta years after!

Who else has seen this in Build And Race? :sunglasses: :face_with_monocle:

If you’re referring to this specifically, no-one. Otherwise it might look like something elsewhere idk lmao

I saw more dust in this video than tank track footage :frowning:

What constraints did you use to make this work?

Hinges, motors and prismatic constraints.

How have you set them up? I can’t understand how you could have used motors in this and I don’t see how hinges can be used because the length of each segment is variable?

Sorry for being late, but I am trying to make a tank with constraints like this and I have searched all over and I just cant seem to find the results I would like. Do you mind explaining how exactly you did this or maybe making a tutorial. It would really help me and a lot of other people. You don’t have to though, its your work so you decide.
