Terrain Water Performance

I was wondering if the depth of the terrain water affects the game’s performance.

I have 10,000 x 10 x 10,000 studs terrain water and would like to make it 100 studs deep.

Would I increase lag by that?

My thoughts: On one side the polygon count would not increase, on the other it could increase lag due to things like the water transparency.

Contrary to what you believe, the general rule is: more terrain = more triangles, obviously. Less is better, performance-wise.

The added triangles won’t be rendered, looking at the wireframe mode.

That’s not the case, it’s just the way rendering water works, it obscures the triangles, the additional triangles are still there.
