[TextChatService] Chatbox flashes white when opened on Mobile

Hello,

I’ve noticed an issue where the default chat UI of TextChatService would flash white when it’s being opened on Mobile devices. This issue has been happening since a few weeks or up to 1-2 months or so now. This issue doesn’t seem to affect other platforms like Windows, and it only affects TextChatService.

Device and app information:-

This sometimes happens for me on desktop (Windows 10); it’s not exclusive to mobile.

Okay, after further testing, it seems that it also happen on Windows, but not consistently like in Mobile. It would always flash white for me when an experience or the chat initially loads for the first few seconds and often times when the chat box is opened after a while for it being closed.

This bug appears to consistently occur on Windows now.

Can this bug please get fixed? It’s very annoying and is bothering me a lot. I am not a fan of getting a flashbang everytime I open the chat and want to use it. Quite unappealing too.

Hello, thank you for the bug report. We are investigating internally. We will post an update when the issue is resolved.

Hey, I took a bit of a look tonight and believe I’ve root caused it. I’ll attempt to roll this out next week.

I’ve noticed that when ChannelTabs are being used, the tabs flash to the right when the chat UI is enabled or shown. I am not sure if the root causes are the same, but it’s a similar bug. I can create a new bug report for this bug if that’s necessary.

:eyes: I believe I can address the grey box in the channel tab with the same root fix, however I do see the additional flash where the tabs flash right-ward as well which is likely a symptom of a different issue.

If you wouldn’t mind, could you post that particular issue as its own topic to help keep things organized?

Hey, just following up that I’ve recently rolled out a change that should address the original flashing issue. Feel free to verify as needed.

Yup, I can confirm that the bug indeed got fixed. Hopefully the other bug with the tab flashing right-wards will get addressed soon too. Thank you!

Great, I’ll mark this as solved internally as well. We will likely triage the other issue in the near future. We will let you know when we’ve figured something out.
