Texture and Color Export Issue

This is a follow up to Kcreate’s post earlier. Though It was a problem that I had posted before, it went away shortly after so I didn’t really pay too much attention to it. Considering most of my assets had been exported before this bug started happening, I had never noticed it until now again.

Like I said Kcreate posted about this earlier and I still feel like its not getting attention. I’ve tried exporting multiple times with multiple different models and it still exports without color or texture. In rare cases some exports do come out with color but they’re usually applied to one thing, and nothing else.!

Anytime I import something that I’ve exported from studio it comes out grey with no colors. Since I’m working outside of studio I shouldn’t jump the gun and blame it for this issue so I edited my maya import settings.

Literally checking and un-checking boxes that determine how something is imported and still nothing has fixed this. I went as far as to try in another program thinking maybe Maya’s just not been on it’s A game. In Cinema 4D this was also an issue for me. The only program this seems to still work fine in is Blender, and I don’t know exactly why.

So can someone please find a fix to this compatibility issue? I’m using maya 2016, and I know Roblox uses Maya at their HQ but for what exactly besides animation I have no clue. But I’m sure someone out there works on the export option in studio so please fix this.

Do you have a link to the model you’re trying to export?

It’s not one it’s pretty much any roblox model. Maple you out of all people should know about exporting, so if it wouldn’t take too much of your time could you download maya 2016, and please try exporting ANYTHING expect Roblox characters since they seem to work, and import it into maya. As for a model you can test the tree house model in the free models as a great example of this glitch.

I don’t have the time to install and learn the basics of Maya, but i’ve imported it in Blender and i had no issues whatsoever. Make sure the .mtl is in the same folder as your .obj.

You wouldn’t have to. It’s as simple as blender, file, import, obj. And like I’ve stated before it only works in blender, and no other program. I’m an animator and I import every time I animate, I’ve learned to deal with import problems in the past and I know how the obj and mtl go hand and hand. But for once in my life I believe it’s an actual Studio problem.

I’m no Maya expert but i can almost fully guarantee you that a .mtl functions the same way in there as it does in Blender. If i can see the colors just fine and you can’t i think there might be something wrong with your program. Have you tried checking Maya’s forums for this problem?

The Maya forums are near unreliable. At least when I post. I wait weeks and nobody reply’s but plenty view it. But setting the forums aside I cant agree with it being a Maya issue due to the fact that I haven’t changed my import settings since this glitch started happening, and before it wasn’t an issue at all. It just started happening.

Another slice of evidence is how this doesn’t work in Maya, Cinema, or even Max according to Kadycreate. I’ve even talked with him and he’s showed me the issue and posted on the forums about it as well.
It’s not uncommon for a Roblox studio update to break something in a game, I’m 99% they broke the export in some way but I don’t know what else I can give you proof if you still don’t believe me.

Again I’m fully aware of how importing works and fairly familiar with exporting, and considering that’s only 1 way to export from Studio, and I know multiple ways to import from maya, and the forums haven’t helped, and multiple people and my peers have talked about this issue, AND how kcreate an animator that I know personally has had no problem with this until recently… I’m certain it’s a problem on Roblox’s part. I’ve used almost every commonly known 3D program, and tested it in all of them.

Seems like someone should move to Blender

Actually i just noticed something, the colors of the .mtl are way more accurate then they used to be. I once submitted it as a feature request and asked @zeuxcg about it. I’m very happy now that this is released but it could be the source of your problem. Perhaps he could help you?

Not as simple as it sounds.

Thank you I’ll ask him

I don’t think this update could’ve caused this issue - it seems more fundamental. Could be Maya viewport setup but we’ll take a look.

Alright thank you. Please remember it’s also an issue in 3DS Max and Cinema so its not just a me thing.
