100% Agreed on exploiting not hiring developers. This is already happening in the industry and it’s terrifying.
It’s not too bad right now in the professional industry outside of Roblox. Particularly indie studios, I have seen a lot of support and statements made by them to uphold human-designed assets
I’m excited to be hired into a studio, but right now it’s very tricky due to the game industry crash rn on top of not having official studio experience regardless of having multiple successful indie games. We need to support each other!
I mean hey man… Vampire Hunters 2 was that one game I sunk my weekends into at some points.
You got this.
Another thing that I found is that how easy UGC’s can be made with this.
Once you’re past the application phase you aren’t really that monitored on your UGC creations. So you can make a basic mesh and then use texture ai to make your model and then you can really exploit it.
How much of the marketplace will be filled with a bunch of this slop?
Hello,
Sorry about the confusion but that is intentional since generations are limited to 5 per day at the moment. Once you run out of generations we also do not allow previews since you won’t be able to generate a texture from it. Hope that clears up the confusion!
Will this number go up in the coming days? If yes, what can we expect with the updates?
This tool is extremely beneficial but the limit is too low for general work activities. Hope to get some more insight on this :))
For a solo dev like myself (where I script, build, model, UV, texture, light) this helps speed up my workflow. I still hand-crafted the middle texture here but used the same UV map to generate a couple of variations.
I will likely tidy them up in PhotoShop. I don’t use AI to replace what I do, just enhance/speed up workflow. My game character icons and abilities are also generated in the first instance using AI, but then I amend them to suit my needs. It’s great for idea generation. But can’t replace the skill and optimisation that comes from a human touch (at least yet).
are we allowed to use this outside roblox? what is the license for this? this is impressive by the way, very nice!
After watching on the YouTube channel of “Roblox Level Up”, I found it interesting how you can create awesome textures with this beta feature!
As I grabbed a Dominus mesh from the Roblox Creator Marketplace (on Studio “Toolbox”), gave a prompt, and let the system generate the texture using SurfaceAppearence, the results weren’t great nor what I expected from the preview scene.
The part of the prompt that specifies left and right are likely being overridden (or just not regarded) by the ‘specify front view’ option being checked.
If you were to uncheck ‘specify front view’ that could give you a different result but likely not an intended one.
Worth a try though. Curious to see how that prompt would be interpreted without specifying front view. Since it is projecting from view in general (taking the 2d representation in the preview and applying that to the 3d object so that it only looks perfect when seen at that same angle) what you’d likely get is your intended result but only when viewed from the angle of the preview regardless of prompt.
Thanks! Looks like a UV issue, please turn Smart UV Unwrap on in the Advanced Options and try again.
I would love to have the ability to provide it with one or more reference images. It could really help reduce logical flaws like strange soccer balls, while allowing developers to have more tools than just their words.
How do you steal publicly available things?
This looks so amazing! I will be the first to use this
Well most ai companies will take other peoples art and then use it to train their ai so its possible that the data model roblox is using could contain stolen artwork (idk of what I said makes any sense but whatever)
Ah I see what you mean. I wouldn’t necessarily call it stealing. There are a bunch of technicalities, but since a single image taken from the internet has little influence over the final generation, it should be fine.
True but it should definitely raise a moral concern as it would have been trained on art without getting the artists approval.
Will we be able to extract textures to process & clean them? I dont think we can expect generative art to align with our aesthetic needs in its current state
Wrong, Roblox Studio was made to “empower” creators, giving them freedom to make whatever they wanted with “ease of access”. They lived up to it.
What you are saying is a humanitarian barrier. Losing jobs just how things advance and everyone knows this for a fact, but don’t wanna accept it.
I don’t think this is a good idea. Many talented artist will lose their jobs with this feature. Roblox Studio was originally made for real people to make their own thing at their own pace, not just type in this and you get that.
