Hello! I am looking for a way to make the backgrounds of textures transparent. I know you can do this with SurfaceAppearances, however I need the texture to be changed. All of the textures I’ll be using need to be transparent in different places too.
As far as I know there is no way to circumvent the limitation of not being able to write SurfaceAppearance properties in a script. Are there any other methods I can use to make backgrounds transparent, while still being able to change them out for different textures?
I think you just have to use a program like photoshop or something and create a transparent image in there. Only way i know how
use this to remove background, and or it has an eraser feature to.. works pretty good and is free
Please just use an art program instead of one of these sites that ask you to pay for credits or a subscription.
did you even look at it? its is free, I have been using it for years… anyhow great input to the topic
It is not.
To download the image at the same resolution it was uploaded you need to purchase credits / a subscription.
Just use an art program. Advertising shady sites with hidden monetizations is not a great look.
what free art program will do better?
Free options:
Krita, Gimp, \Paint.net, Photopea
Single time payment options:
Procreate, Paint Tool Sai,
Free trial options:
Anything Adobe, Clip Studio Paint, Paint Tool Sai
I would not recommend using Adobe products or Clip Studio Paint outside of their free trials.
You are able to use .pngs for transparent backgrounds.
Extremely sorry for the lack of response, but the original hold-up was that the mesh still had to be visible in the parts where I wanted the texture to be transparent. If you made part of the texture transparent, then that spot on the mesh would also be transparent, which is why I was using surface appearances. Sorry if that wasn’t clear in the original post. This is for an outfit system where I apply the texture of the clothing to the actual player mesh, using a surface appearance to cut out parts I want the original character’s skin tone to show through. However I ended up giving each clothing it’s own surface appearance instance that I duplicate as a work-around. Thanks for the help though!
