The Backrooms: Revisited - Open Source (Developer's) Kit

[Just a quick warning: This is actually my very first devFourm post, so if I get anything wrong please point it out so I can correct it, thanks again!]

Hello everyone! Now to give a bit of context, I’ve been developing a game since 2020 called; “The Backrooms: Revisited”, of which is based off of the now very popular Backrooms concept, originally posted in-between 2018 and 2019. The reason this is relevant is because in recent times I’ve been refining and creating an open-source kit for intermediate / beginner developers to make Backrooms levels easier! You can practically use the Kit / Framework for anything really, if you see something useful in it, you can use it (Giving a link to the kit would also be nice if used). I’m also adding levels created with the kit to the game’s “Fanmade-Level-Select”, of which players can browse for other User Generated Levels linked on my group’s wall.

Now I do want to stress that this is entirely a working in progress and some scripts are still yet to be re-written and optimized, as well as bug fixes not being a major priority at this current time, so if you come across anything that should be re-written or bug fixed, don’t hesitate to contact me on any of my socials or even below. Oh and there’s not really much documentation to how things work with this Framework, so you’ll have to figure out quite a lot of it yourself for now until I finish creating documentation for it, sorry about that! X(

Other than that, here’s the link to the experience so anyone can visit and experiment with it, if you’ve got any suggestions or discussion about it I’d most defiantly like to hear it, been trying to get proper feedback for quite a while now and this is one of the best ways I can think to get just that, thanks for reading and enjoy developing!

(Also before you visit the link, do keep in mind that the kit in question, does have some common flaws that may already be in your head the moment you play it, for example the incorrect scaling of the hotbar menu, some GUI elements just not fitting stylistically with the rest of the interface or said GUI elements being broken with TweenService when being toggled and modified via other scripts, these are currently being worked on and will eventually be fixed!)

[Currently Unreleased, won’t be released until my account gets re-instated, been trying hard behind the scenes to get it re-instated but Roblox support keeps giving me copy and paste messages, completely ignoring my comments as a result, stuff’s hard man. :frowning:]

[26th September Edit]
I know It’s been a while since I’ve updated this page, however it goes without saying that I’ve just pushed out an update for the framework on a difference place, I know this might sound strange however I’ve had to restart the upload and finalize process for the entire game due to Roblox falsely banning my account and refusing to do a proper investigation of the issue, for now however, you can visit the brand new version here, the one that I’ll actually be updating, assuming Roblox doesn’t ban my newer main once again, sorry for any inconvenience!

Please consider posting/changing this *post to #resources:community-resources. Also please consider this as constructive criticism.also note that all the opinions here are based on the content shown in the image. I am Writing this on mobile so I can’t see the kit so yeah.

The Humanoid is Great if anyone plans to make it as a character or modify it as a monster. The room is decent.the Safe i suppose could be detailed more. The computer looks good but the table could also be detailed. The glowing part i suppose is a Light. It’s good but it would look better with bloom so i suppose.if the kit has one then i suppose you improve it a bit. The rest colored parts are weird. I seriously don’t know what are those for but i guess it’s for windows. The GUIs could be a better. The Font is good but the colors just don’t feel the fit for a Horror game. But it’s a Free Kit so I’m not complaining because i see the efforts behind it.

Overall rating : 8.5 / 10

Thanks for the feedback! I do agree some of the models are very outdated in design and other’s aren’t as clear as they’re supposed to be, the colored blocks are actually sound-blocks that play sounds at random intervals during the server’s runtime, they’re meant to be placed around the map and hidden (transparency = 1) so you can add more immersion and sound design to your map. Lastly the UIs are being updated later on to be a better fit to the game.

I’ll try to change the post so that it shows in the community-resources as well, thanks for the suggestion!

your kit is nice just have a small glitch cant play in mobile.

Really nice that you made and open sourced a Backrooms Kit. I’ll wait a bit before making a small game out of this so that you can fix the bugs and scaling. I tried this out in studio and it worked really well. I can see this being really easy to use and make a game out of.

Nice, but consider updating the UI a bit, it is too sharp.

Alright, the mobile camera rotation glitch should finally be solved now, I’ve also taken the time to look at smaller pieces of code and changed the “PauseMenuBlur” script so that it incorporates TweenService rather than just a for i = 1,v loop

Small issue for anyone who’s recently finding this page; my account has been terminated due to me working with other developers on a team create game, of which a toolbox asset was inserted and got flagged by moderation bots, causing those same bots to associate the “bad” with my account, terminating me for good, so I’m not entirely sure if I’ll continue development of this any further if my account doesn’t get recovered, if anyone can help me get my account back as I did nothing to deserve it getting falsely terminated, than please don’t hesitate to contact me on any of my socials, thanks for the help!
