just earlier me and my friend had a discussion about horror games. I remembered how a website once included ‘general extreme sense of hopelessness’ as a factor for it’s somewhat high rating for a game (along with other content that it had). I’m wondering if much more vague themes (such as extremely bleakness, lack of hope, depressing mood) violate roblox’s ToS
edit : Forgot to mention, but can a game be ‘too scary’ despite not violating other tos rules (such as gore and violence)?
i don’t want to cite it because the game itself is fairly innapropriate (the website owner themselves suggested 18+ despite 15+ rating), and has a bolded warning talking about the extreme negativity of the game (and to steer clear of it if it can affect you)
Roblox could warn you about the game when they find it inappropriate but try to get away from the gore kind of themes to link with horror. I know you’d want it to be intensifying for people that enjoy it but it could be a violation of ToS.
There isn’t a much way around it, but you can just set aside the horror things that you know that would get the assets taken down.
As mentioned in previous replies. Nothing in either the Terms of Use or the Community Rules, states that a game cannot be ‘too scary’. However it is worth taking a look at Section II, rules 1, 2 and 3.
Section II explains what you can and cannot have in your games when developing them.
When it comes to gore in the game, we already have some games on Roblox that include varying amounts of gore, and there isn’t anything explicit in the Community Rules nor ToU, that state you cannot use gore within your games.
In addition. You had mentioned ‘depressing mood’ and ‘lack of hope’ as a ‘vague’ theme for a game. The atmosphere within the game can be either of these themes. However, don’t ever, take it as far as to reference any type of self-harm, threats, or bullying. As these all violate Section II rule 2, and will get your game taken down, and depending on the severity, moderation action against your account.
Once again, nothing in the ToU or Community Rules states that blood / gore isn’t allowed to be in games. The games you are referencing had likely violated something else within the rules that resulted in their take-downs.
i’m pretty sure they mentioned ‘no excessive violence/gore’ in the ToS, but didn’t say t was outright banned
Edit : I’m aware self harm is against ToS (also threats and bullying), i meant lack of hope in some ways of literally not being able to do anything about the bad situation in the game, etc.
