The new ban system is unfair for families & shared devices

Greetings everyone,

I want to discuss something that has been bothering me recently. The recent updates made to Roblox’s ban evasion system seems exceptionally harsh, especially for those who share Wi-Fi, a device or even an email account.

As a parent, I use Roblox and my younger sibling plays as well. We have the same email linked in the past and currently reside together. If my sibling were to get banned, I would be highly concerned about my account getting compromised even if I did nothing to contribute to it.

I have noticed an increasing number of posts discussing how people are banned just because they are connected to a banned account. Whether it be having the same IP address, sharing a PC, or having alternative accounts, it is as though the system makes the assumption that we are all actively trying to evade bans when in reality, most of us are family members just enjoying the game together.

The main issue is that Roblox is assuming shared accounts or households as meshed together. As a result, if someone from your household gets banned, your account is automatically flagged too – despite not being guilty of any wrongdoing.

This has impacts on:
Households that have a shared computer or internet service
Children and adolescents that have more than one account tied to a single email address
Users in educational institutions or public libraries
Every person that shares a household with other Roblox users

What would solve this problem:
More effective methods of isolating ban evasion from ordinary users sharing accommodation
A notification prior to flagging or banning linked accounts
An option to clarify scenarios like this for appeals

If anyone else has gone through something similar, I’d love to hear your thoughts. I really think the system could use some changes to make it fairer for everyone

I agree, I think that it’s too broad of an approach to taking down alternative accounts by malicious people. I don’t know much about the engineering behind the scenes for security, but at-least ID verified, phone # verified, email address verified should be considered by the moderators/computers as some sort of extra layer of protection from assumption of just everyone together being one whole offence.

…but I probably don’t know what I’m talking about, however it’s concerning to think that at any point you can be in the execution line without warning for something you didn’t even do or have connections to.

That’s exactly correct, the argument about verification is very strong. Some people put so much effort into validating their identity which, in my opinion, should be enough. I know that it is very concerning that individuals can obtain a flag or be banned simply because they happened to reside in the same location as someone who was previously in trouble. It has been great hearing from you because I appreciate your understanding on the matter.
