The required read time to post on the forums should be reduced

Cause kids will get bored by then.
Not to mention it works really well right now to keep annoying people out so Id say it doesnt need in any way to be reduced!

Fun fact I had 3 days of read time before I got in :3

It also took me only 2 days, but that was only because I was grinding topics :joy:

I heavily disagree, the forum is already prone to many trollers and stupidity that decreasing it would be even more catastrophic. Rather, I think t should be increased!

I feel as if 2 hours would be enough, but you make a point, if already works so why change it. I think they should require 4 total hours of read time across topics and documentation, with at least one hour of read time in either forums or documentation.

Also, I think it is important to emphasize that not all kids are script kiddies! I am in high school, and have worked on open source projects, machine learning, and many other advanced topics that are on a college level. But yes, a majority of my fellow high schoolers are… not intelligent… that’s a nice way to put it.

Edit: I bet you had to get 3 days of read time due to either not meeting the 150 topic minimum or 1.5k post minimum.

The problem with increasing it further is that this restricts legitimate users from joining even more. I think if it was ever increased further, Roblox should give forms to fill out to apply to get in quicker. These forums should ask for general development experience, not just Roblox related. I haven’t seen many trolls or stupidity, but I’ve only been on the forums for 4 hours.

Good idea but 1 hour documentation is a bit excessive. Maybe 25 minutes tops but it’d be a bit hard to track that without privacy invasions such as ecsv2 which thankfully a lot of people have blocked. (and you should). Discourse measures read times in its own without the help of Roblox’s spying services.

That is true. I think it would be a good idea to reopen the form to get access.

What is ecsv2?

Tracking domain Roblox uses to pretty much learn everything about how you interact with the page. Go to the homepage, open the network console, and hover over a bunch of stuff and you’ll learn.

I think its best to keep it at what it is already at. Lowering it would make it easier for spam/alt accounts to join and having a higher bar of entry filters out some people who would be less likely to follow the rules of the forum.

Hard disagree, it’s easy to fake it as it currently is, and it still doesn’t get people to read the rules.

I disagree, if you are so legitimate then waiting a few hours or just looking at posts isn’t a big deal, forums would be bad as they could be exploited as well as the chance of it being AI reviewed.

Oppose to this feature request. I don’t support this suggestion, because of trolls, spammers, and bots.

I had access to posting in the forums in the same day I signed up.

The current limits seem fine but I think we need to make it slightly stricter. Not really enough staff to monitor it, but users should be asked why they need access to the forums. A Mastodon server that I currently run two accounts on, https://wetdry.world, does this and it helps shield out bad actors.

I don’t know how people got in with 1-3 days because it took me like 3 weeks, so I think something needs to be done to fix that. I also know some devs that still aren’t in devforum somehow.

It took me like 6 months for me to be able to post mainly because I didn’t open the forums often

I disagree. I think this is a perfectly reasonable amount of requirements. Reducing this would only affect the DevForum negatively.

It’s because of the picky requirements. From what I’ve heard, you need 4 hours of read time, 150 topics read, and 1.5k posts read. If I had to guess, you didn’t have enough posts read.

You may also see this post on why the requirements to post are like this.

That’s a good point. They should at least reopen post approval requests.

I have noticed how much more educated and productive this forum is over other forums where you just join.
