The ROBLOX Game Developers (TRGD) Group Information

Hello and welcome to the group “The ROBLOX Game Developers” (TRGD)! We are a fairly big group full of Roblox developers with all sorts of abilities and skills, including building, scripting, C-framing, graphic design, audio production, and more. Many users in the group are still learning how to develop on Roblox, while some users may be more advanced than others. For more information regarding the group and the rank system (including how to get a rank that you want), please read the following “handbook” of information below:

SECTION I : GENERAL GROUP INFORMATION:

  • The group was created in March 2013 and currently has thousands of members.
  • The CEO/Owner/Founder of the group is Alexrocks911. There is also a Co-CEO, CEO Advisor, and two Creative Directors. However, some of them are not so active anymore and hence should not be contacted about group-related things.
  • There is a “headquarters” game (“TRGD HQ”) for the group, but it generally serves no purpose and is quite outdated and needs renovation.
  • Any group member is able to post in the group wall. However, please be respectful in your posts when replying to other people. Try to put all of the information you want to post, into just one (1) single wall post instead of multiple, because that gets spammy and clogs up the group wall for people who are searching for people to collaborate on game development with. Also, any attempts to spam or scam are strictly disallowed and will result in a removal from the group. Advertising groups is prohibited, and such posts will be deleted. Advertising your game is generally allowed as long as it is to show a new creation of yours and as long as it is not more than 1 post about the game. For information regarding obtaining ranks (which can be done through posting on the group wall), continue reading further.

SECTION II : GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING GROUP RANKS:

  • When you first join the group, you will start off with the default “Pending a Rank” rank.
  • There are 3 possible developer ranks you can obtain: “Builders/Scripters” (it is one big joint rank), “Audio Producers & C-Framers”, and “Graphic Design Artists”. There is also a “Role Ranker” rank (not specifically developer-related, but rather related to group management and users with this rank have some developer skills as well).
  • Unless a vacancy occurs (or is otherwise determined), the ranks “Creative Directors”, “CEO Advisor”, “Co-CEO”, and “CEO” are not possible for anyone to get. The role “Alts” is specifically just for the alternative accounts of the group’s owner, Alexrocks911.

SECTION III : HOW TO GET A GROUP RANK:

  • [Summer 2021 Update: there will be a more “automated” ranking system coming later in 2021, where you will be allowed to submit links to your creations by completing a brief short form that I will add in the TRGD HQ game. This will be the system instead of having to message the group’s admins/post on the group wall, as those ways take a while due to external time constraints and very limited staff. The logistics will still have to be figured out, including how all submissions will be reviewed. Stay tuned!]
  • To get a rank, someone must give you the rank (typically either the owner, Alexrocks911, or a “Role Ranker”). Contact them with a request for a rank and make sure to provide any links to your places/creations (via Roblox, Twitter, etc.) You may also use the group wall system to request a rank, but it can get clogged sometimes and sometimes posts/messages may unintentionally go unnoticed – but private messages are generally better for this purpose. If you use the private messaging system, you will usually be notified if a rank has been given to you.
  • Sometimes, ranks will be given without notification. This will usually occur if a rank if given based on a group wall post of yours, or if you are given a rank just by the CEO or a Role Ranker checking out your profile (which happens sometimes when we go through the members list).
  • The “Builders/Scripters” rank:
    • This is perhaps the most general rank, and hence, this is the rank where most people will go.
    • This rank applies to both the Builders and Scripters of Roblox. If you fit into either one (or both) of those categories, then this rank is most appropriate for you.
    • For Builders: you should demonstrate your building abilities through your Roblox game creations and model creations. While your creations do not need to be complex (nor front-page level), they should demonstrate at least some sort of intermediate (nothing too basic/too easy) building abilities. You should try to stay as close to originality as possible, minimizing the use of free models (as well as giving credit where due).
    • For Scripters: you should demonstrate your scripting abilities through your knowledge and applications of Roblox Lua. You can provide a link to a place you made that has cool scripts you made (they do not need to be advanced, but should be something less basic than a “lava brick”, for instance) or a model of a script you made. Demonstrating intermediate knowledge of Roblox APIs, for example, is a good skill. Scripts that are copied or are just simple changes from existing scripts, do not count. For various scripting tutorials, you are recommended to check out YouTube tutorials, tutorials on the Roblox DevForum (this site), and on the Roblox Developer Hub (formerly known as the Roblox Wiki).
    • While the requirements for this rank are quite flexible, as long as you have creations that demonstrate a decent quality of your abilities, you should be fine.
    • For people who are both builders and scripters, you will likely have a good mix of the skills mentioned above and you should submit a link to one of your best games (the game that you feel most accomplished about, and best reflects your development abilities).
  • The “Audio Producers & C-Framers” rank:
    • This rank is for people who produce audio (which can include music, sound effects, etc.) and are particularly adept at C-Framing and/or 3D modeling (particularly with external programs such as “Blender” to create meshes, or a Roblox feature like CSG).
    • To clarify: “audio producer” does not simply mean uploading music that is not your own.
    • Your work must be fully original, for both audio producers and C-Framers.
    • For audio producers, you may show your work through a Roblox audio link or a YouTube link of your own. For C-Framers, you may show your work in a game or as an uploaded model or mesh.
  • The “Graphic Design Artists” rank:
    • This rank is for people who are proficient in graphic design. This includes GUIs, GFX, Roblox item retextures, thumbnails, and basically anything related to graphic design.
    • The graphic design does not need to specifically used in a Roblox game, but should be related to Roblox in some way at least.
    • You may show your work through a Roblox decal image, a Roblox game thumbnail, a well-designed GUI in a game of yours, a Twitter photo link, etc.
  • The “Role Ranker” rank:
    • This rank is for people who want to be a part of group management. As a Role Ranker, you will rank people to their appropriate rank if they demonstrate sufficient skills. You are expected to actively check your Roblox messages and the group wall for people who want to be ranked. Those who are not actively carrying out the tasks of this rank will be demoted to a lower rank.
    • Preferably, you should have some experience in group management (for example, being a moderator in another group, being responsible for ranking people in another group, being a group owner, etc.)
    • As a Role Ranker, you should read this post and understand the ranking process.
    • To become a Role Ranker, please message Alexrocks911 expressing your desire for the position. There is no exact limit for how many people can get this rank.
  • NOTE: If you believe you would fit into more than one rank (which is not possible on Roblox), ask for the rank that you believe best reflects you as a Roblox developer. If you are a “Role Ranker”, then you likely already have some degree of development skills either way.

SECTION IV : CONTACTING GROUP MANAGEMENT:

  • The best way to reach out to group management (any rank higher, and including, “Role Ranker” and the CEO) is via Roblox PMs (Private Messages) or Twitter DMs.
  • The profile of the group’s CEO, Alexrocks911, can be found by going to the following link: https://www.roblox.com/users/23952489/profile. Twitter: @Alexrocks911
  • It is recommended for you to ensure that you maintain a fairly professional style, with appropriate grammar at least.
  • Sometimes there are so many messages that your message may go unnoticed at times. If it has been several days and you have not gotten any sort of response, you can try to message again. This applies to messaging the CEO and Role Rankers.

SECTION V : MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Free models are generally good for learning Roblox development and starting off. But, the use of free models is generally discouraged for the ranking process (and their use should be extremely limited, and appropriate credit should be given, such as in the game description, for things that you did not create by yourself).
  • In your creations, the Roblox Terms of Service should be followed, and you should avoid things that are copyrighted and hence, Roblox would disallow.
  • In regard to the group wall, you may post on it for a rank (or use the message system, which is a lot more efficient) and you may post your new game creations on their to share with the community. You should ask for feedback, especially if you are in the “testing” stage of your game.
  • You may request other people for help or request people to collaborate with you on game projects (Team Create is a good idea for this, as a suggestion) on the group wall. You should not be spammy about it and should not use it as an opportunity to invite others to your group. If you are hiring developers and paying them, you must ensure that it is done correctly, ethically, and the way that is most aligned with the Roblox Terms of Service. Meaning, there should not be any off-site transactions (especially with real-world currency) and you should refrain from using the trade system as a form of payment, as that has led to scamming sometimes. No scamming is permitted, as that can result in your account receiving a warning or a ban by the Roblox moderation team.
  • Any updates, public service announcements (PSAs), or anything relevant will be posted by Alexrocks911 on the group shout.
