The ToolBox is full of bad models

This post was originally posted in Building Support and has been duplicated as a formal bug report to comply with Roblox staff requests.

“Hello Developers,
I want to tell you about a bug I encountered recently and I don’t know how to fix it.
I completely restarted my windows and all my files were deleted. The first time I installed Roblox and Roblox studio. I entered the Roblox studio to log in because I wanted to make a new game and I quickly looked at the toolbox to find some inspiration. Guess what I saw? The whole toolbox was full of models that had few votes and the main page did not have the models verified by the admins. If you know how I can get rid of this problem, please help me!”

Edit:
There’s another post a user made about the same problem

Hey @Voleraii , I assume you meant to post this issue? The ToolBox is full of bad models - #25 by Voleraii
Since the screenshot is from 2021 while your issue is present day

yes. @hooksmith requested that these issues be reposted in the Studio Bugs category, so that is what I did. I credited the original post in the Building Support hyperlink. This issue still persists to this day

Could you please elaborate on what the issue here is? I’m not seeing anything unexpected/abnormal, unless you mean the toolbox is prioritising models known to have malicious scripts? (No way to tell that last part just from a screenshot)

on the original post, i commented with my side of the problem

The toolbox isn’t supposed to be a high quality be all end all has everything sort of place, it’s supposed to be a place where people can share content they think others may make use of (whether as-is or modified)

A good comparison would be using an AI for something: It will usually get what you need for basic tasks (eg, finding a generic model or generic script for something) but for more specific tasks/needs you’re going to need to do the rest of the polish yourself (fixing scripts/working them into your own code, changing textures/colours or sizes of models)

Taking your example case of looking for a punch script:
You can ask the toolbox for a punch script, and it will give you just that, a punch script (which, in Roblox’s case, is always gonna be a tool as that’s by a large margin the easiest way to have a character do an action) - Lots of toolbox content will be inherently one size fits all
If you want it to work flawlessly, or work in the way you want it to, you’re going to need to do the rest of the coding (maybe the toolbox script is looking for a part that has a different name in your game, or if you wanted it to do more damage depending on player health you’d need to code that in yourself)

for somebody that joined a year before me i’m surprised you don’t have recollection of the toolbox being any better at a point. it used to be better. i used to be able to find codes i can use for things but nowadays it’s almost impossible. i’m not a noob to roblox, i know how the toolbox used to work and how it works now, it’s not the same. i’m also not gonna morally stoop low enough to use ai for things. furthermore, you should know that you still need some programming knowledge in order to use ai assisting to write codes for you.

please also practice and maintain respect as it’s the fastest way to end a discussion. constructive or direct solutions are encouraged here, not insulting people by saying they have a “skill issue”.

i wish i saw this post first lol sorry i didn’t. i edited the post to include a hyperlink to your post about it

I think you missed the point of my message.

I said the toolbox is comparable to AI, in the sense that if you try and get very basic generic scripts it will most likely work first try, however for almost every situation you’re going to need the skills to actually make it work and/or fit properly into your game.

If I look up “punch script”, it will give me exactly that, a whole bunch of punch scripts.

Let’s take the second one for example, it’s just a simple script and animation

This is a very generic one size fits all type of thing. It’d do the job if you just want any sort of punch functionality in your game, but if you wanted it to be a gear that you can pick up for example, you’d need to modify the code so that it properly works as a gear that can be equipped and unequipped.

I’m not sure what’s going on with your toolbox, but I can search up something as broadly generic as “house” like you did, even with showing unverified creators, and get good results

As a side note, zero votes doesn’t mean something is bad, it just means nobody has voted on it. I still say I see nothing abnormal in your toolbox examples there. The way you’re wording your posts makes it sound like it’s showing unrelated content or models with viruses.

Roblox can’t do much right these days, but I will absolutely defend whatever tiny scraps they get right (or at least, don’t do as badly as people say they did)

I don’t have a recollection of the toolbox being better, because it’s better now than it was then.
You used to be able to just spam keywords in descriptions and titles and it would appear at the very top of the searches, causing the toolbox to be near unusable for a long while because of it.

Edit for anyone viewing: I mentioned that OP was lying about the script while being rather rude about it, but I was told off cause calling users out isn’t allowed.

I would advise against doing business with this user as they are potentially lying about their experience (they’ve already proven they haven’t been developing as long as they claim, and they aren’t able to get an already working script to work…)

i’ve tried that script and i wasn’t able to get it to successfully work. i really don’t like the amount of assumptions ur making as it’s making explaining and reasoning with you more difficult than it needs to be, so i’m just gonna end our discussion here
