The War Series: Rank Guide (V.1.2)

The War Series: Rank Guide (V.1.2)

Basic Understanding of the Chain of Command and Roles in The War Series.

Non-Enlisted

Unknown: People who are unaffiliated, unknown, and must go through processing before being able to train with The War Series.

Civilian: People who have gone through initial screening, but are still unaffiliated with The War Series, must complete “basic” training before becoming an official group member.

Black Bar: A role that primarily serves as a barrier between the Enlisted (official) members of the group and non-members. May also be used for a multitude of uses but is not limited to; people who are under investigation, people who need more screening time, and or people who are currently being punished.

Reserves

Description: Reserves is a role for generally any former Recruit+ who have either;
(1) Served their career and wish to “retire”. *
(2) Been demoted due to inactivity and eventually placed into this role as a “reserve”
(3) Other reasons, to be disclosed in the future

Members in this role are not considered “active duty”, and they have no additional perks or benefits compared to an Enlist. Former ranks do not enable you to have “more power” over others.
Members found using, or abusing former titles, information, or thereof can have not only their chance at reserves forfeited-- if severe they may even be exiled or blacklisted from The War Series entirely.

This role is designed for members who haven’t left the group and have been placed into this role via one of the methods above. If you are a former Recruit+ member who has left the group and would like to join the “Reserves” please contact the Commandant directly. Keep in mind, with the annotation below, that this role is a work in progress.

[*] Retirement via the group has been a “hot topic” in The War Series for many years and is highly subjective. We plan to make this process easier in the future. This role is our newest role designed to help aid in this. Standby.

Enlisted

Qualifications: Willing to learn and grow, along with basic maturity.

Description: The basic group members will need to know more before doing anything.

Responsibilities: To learn, remember, and grow.

Recruit: Members who have completed their requirements and must now show maturity, and growth, and complete their knowledge lessons to become a Private.

Junior Marines

Description: Marines that are “Juniors” are those who are taking their first steps into leadership and will be learning basic combat skills and information and how to teach and lead others.

Responsibilities: To learn and apply basic combat, communication, and leadership skills. As well as to generally be more mature and understanding than their subordinates.

Private (“PVT”): A Recruit who has just been promoted to the role and responsibility of Marine. They will be learning “Marine Advancement”.Through this, they will be learning how to better their combat skills and understanding. Along with better overall communication skills.

They will now start learning how to lead others through “Marine Proficiency”. Lance Corporal [Trials]

Qualifications:

  • Master all previous lessons and leadership teachings, being mature and upholding standards.

  • Be a PFC for at least one week. (TiR)

  • Be in The War Series for at least two weeks. (TiS)

  • Apply for information from a Higher Official+. If approved they will be allowed to send in an LCPL application, and if accepted will be initiated into the Lance Corporal trials process.

Description:

Lance Corporal trials include two members (A Designated Career Pathing+ and a Designated NCO+) teaching and guiding a member in trials through the process of becoming a real Lance Corporal.

During this process, the Designated Pathing member ensures that everything goes smoothly and operates as a supervisor for both the member in trials and the NCO – answering any questions/comments or concerns during the process.

The designated NCO will be doing the majority of the teaching of lessons to the trial members. The trial process is estimated to take around a month, depending on the availability of all members involved and the members in trials’ ability to learn and grow during their trials.

Lance Corporal trials are not a “fail-proof” process. If you are found unsuitable for Lance Corporal at any time during the trial process and are unable to change or grow - you will remain a PFC or below until you can try again. (Members can re-apply as long as they aren’t barred from applying.)

Responsibilities: During the trial process the member will be taught and learn how, but not limited to; how to host (filling out event briefs, shouting, and more), how to do requirements, and how to effectively host basic events.

Lance Corporal [Trainee-NCO/LCPL]

Qualifications: Pass the trials process, be selected and approved to become a true Lance Corporal.

Description: Lance Corporals are considered “T-NCOs” meaning they are training to become a larger part of the chain of command. They are still considered “Junior Marines” until they become full-fledged NCOs. Taking their first true steps in leadership - they host basic events and teach requirements and knowledge. They are considered still part of “Junior” leadership.

Responsibilities: Setting an example as a leader and being there for others. Hosting basic events (training, recruiting sessions), teaching requirements, and knowledge. Filling out member count, and event briefs. Sit-reps/communication as needed. Bringing any suggestions, ideas, or concerns that others may have to higher ranks.

  • Master hosting basic quality events.

  • Understanding of their role in the Chain of Command and becoming a role model.

  • Be an LCPL for at least One Month. (TiR)

  • Be in TWS for at least Two Months. (TiS)

  • Be approved by the Chain of Command.

Description: NCOs are now a step up from their subordinate T-NCOs and are now more officially recognized in the chain of command. They begin basic promotions, evaluate and teach Marine lessons, and serve to fill the gap in the Chain of Command between Pathing/Higher+ members and Junior Enlisted members.

Responsibilities: Basic group and Discord promotions (Unknown->Civilian ->Enlist->Recruit), teaching Marine Advancement, Marine Proficiency, evaluating Marines, working directly with Marines, setting a bigger example as a leader, and communicating any issues/concerns/suggestions with the larger Chain of Command. As NCOs evolve and look towards career paths, they will also learn how to be the “teacher” in the Lance Corporal trials procedure. Mastering this before they can apply to pathing.

Corporal (“CPL”): Corporals are T-NCOs who have just “graduated” from the trainee role and are working on mastering any previous lessons, learning and mastering their skills as NCOs, bettering themselves and their careers, as well as becoming more knowledgeable with interaction inside of the Chain of Command.

Sergeant (“SGT”): A Corporal may reach the rank of Sergeant by one of the two following methods:

  • Mastered all their BLC lessons, are seen as a good role model, and have been approved by the Chain of Command for promotion.

During this process, NCOs who are selected, receive career path relevant information, an assessment to fill out, and begin to learn some of the more basic tasks of a Pathing member while mastering any lessons they have yet to with ALC.

Responsibilities: Staff NCOs are finishing up any lessons they have yet to master as NCOs and begin to learn base career pathing lessons. During this time, depending on their career path they may be selected to continue their pathing in a two-step school [WO and Officer] or to continue to learn the base lessons and be taught as future potential S-NCO [Senior-NCO].

Such base lessons include but aren’t limited to;

  • Advanced group and discord promotions (RCT->PVT, PVT->PFC)

  • Be in TWS for at least Five Months. (TiS)

  • Be selected into a Pathing school.

  • Be approved by the Chain of Command to begin Career Pathing.

Description: Career Pathing is a process very similar to LCPL trials. However, it is a lot more vetting as it prepares future members to become part of the “Higher Official” team. The entire process of pathing (including Staff=NCO) is expected to double a person’s career time in TWS.* As with trials; members are not “guaranteed” to graduate - as this is a process to see if they are suited for Higher Command.

Currently, Career Pathing is in the process of being re-developed with more career-path-centric lessons. Members may still be accepted at this time, but they have an understanding that these more specific lessons will be developed more with time. This branches out to ALL paths and future lessons is a current “hot topic”.

[*] An estimated timeframe is around 5-6 months, depending on the availability of all parties.

Responsibilities: Members of pathing schools will be focused on their specific lessons and learning their base lessons, some of which they have already learned from their experience being a Staff=NCO. As they develop, they may find themselves ranked up to chart their progress and further their careers.
Once mastering all base lessons and career-path-centric lessons and are approved by the Chain of Command – they will become official Highers.

Newly promoted Higher Officials begin by taking a new leadership point in all previous lessons and teachings. They begin regulating vs managing the Lance Corporal trials process, giving valuable information to future members in trials (including their applications), and designating NCO/Pathing members for trials. They start promoting both T-NCOs and NCOs alike, along with more “tricky” placements such as those in Reserves and Civilians to Unknown. They learn to handle internal affairs and some external (other groups/clans) affairs.

First Sergeant/WO2/1st Lieutenant:

Description: Becoming a Seasoned Official means you have spent at LEAST a full year in TWS. You have mastered all previous lessons and teachings provided. Seasoned Officials have regulated the entire base structure or “Junior Leadership” of TWS. Seasoned Officials start managing that “Higher” structure such as getting people into Pathing and teaching future Seasoned how to teach Pathing members. Along with said Highers. Gaining the ability to exile certain members and clean entire boards. Truly some of the “leaders of leaders” within TWS are found here, and with significantly more experience soon to come in their careers.

  • Regulating (promoting/demoting) Career Pathing members.

  • Managing and further cleaning of entire paperwork assets, Discord, and the group as a whole.

  • Handling much further internal (TWS) and external (other groups/clans) affairs.

Master Gunnery Sergeant/WO3/Captain:

Fresh Seasoned Officials begin by taking a new leadership standpoint. They begin managing and regulating the Career Pathing process, giving out information, and assessing and designating themselves alongside the Higher Officials to the Pathing process. They are teaching and evaluating Higher Officials, as well as ensuring all processes and procedures within TWS go well. They even learn how to exile certain members alongside the “Civilian Exile” policy along with the more tricky demotions such as Civilian to Unknown.

SGTMAJ/WO4/Major:

As Seasoned Official develop and gain much more valuable experience in their new role, they may reach their next rank in one of two ways:

  • Master all of their lessons, and be approved by the Chain of Command for promotion.

OR

  • Have an estimated TiR of Six Months, TiS of One Year and Six months, and have been approved by the Chain of Command for promotion.

Senior Official

  • Be a Seasoned Official for at least Nine Months.(TiR)

  • Be in TWS for at least Two Years. (TiS)

  • Be approved by the Chain of Command.

  • Be approved DIRECTLY by the Commandant himself.

Description: Becoming a Senior Official means you have spent around TWO YEARS in TWS. They have gained personal approval from not only other Senior Official members but also the Commandant himself.

Seniors are now not just working with their former “High Command” members, but regulating them as well. Seniors oversee almost ALL operations within TWS and serve a “true expert” role within TWS.

Responsibilities: Seniors handle (but are not limited to);

  • Managing and evaluating Seasoned Official members.

  • Managing, evaluating, and regulating (promoting/demoting) Higher Official members.

  • Regulating almost all ranks of the group and the truly “tricky” demotions and exiles.

  • Managing and cleaning almost all paperwork assets, Discord, and the group as a whole.

  • Handling almost all internal (TWS) and external (other groups/clans) affairs.

  • Serve as a “historian”/“archivist”, noting changes and growth of TWS over time.

SGTMAJ of TWS/WO5/Colonel:

Senior Official members are expected to learn and grow as TWS develops and grows itself. They manage everything before the chain of command, look over everything, and then give expert advice with their sage-like wisdom and experience. They cover any gaps in the Chain of Command and elect newer Seasoned Official members. They carry out much bigger exile processes and can basically - within reason, promote/demote nearly anyone in the group. Senior Official members directly make changes themselves and are expected to work on things throughout the entirety of TWS. Senior Officials are in all senses a “Mini-Boss” or “Mini-Commandant”, being able to run the group in its entirety with or without the Commandant’s presence. They even are seen/known to be “historians” or “archivists”, logging history and changes in TWS. Many senior officials have been in TWS for more than 5+ years!

Notice:

The information displayed in this forum is “as is”, ranks are achieved generally on a Chain of Command and case-to-case basis. Just because a member may have the “qualifications” does not mean they automatically are approved. Previous career experience may not apply to qualifications. Questions/comments/concerns may be sent to the Commandant, Senior or Higher+ depending on circumstances and your rank.
