As I’ve said, the $ symbol is usually associated with the United States, and some non-Americans may feel alienated.
Alternatively, some foreign markets that Roblox wants to get into may not appreciate it.
And of course, R$ is a real world currency symbol
1000% agree. “roBUX” implies that there is a currency similar to USD, and the old symbol is so recognizable, I don’t know why they are changing it past trying to stop looking like a kids game, though imo it doesn’t even accomplish that goal.
That’s why they intend on changing it. I wouldn’t be suprised if Robux gets renamed in the near future.
I think the name “Robux” is too iconic to change. It could take years for users to stop using the robux terms, which would just confuse new players. We sort of see this effect in ROBLOX premium–I still see users calling it builders club.
This icon is great for Roblox, the old icon depicted currency that exists in Brazil .
This is called “Real”, used as “ R$ ”, so much so that in the United States it is “$”. I know the “R$” would be like Robux, R featuring Robux and $ representing a currency.
Besides, that this new icon reminds me of something else, like @howmanysmaII shows an image, which I was scared of, did Roblox make an icon because of a piece?
The new design is… interesting? I’m not in love with it but I’m hoping it grows on me. I agree with some comments I’ve seen that the square in the center should be rotated like the Roblox icon itself.

I’m not suggesting we change the name, I’m merely saying that the new design doesn’t seem to immediately spark the idea of a dollar. You’re right that robux are too iconic and changing that would only stir further backlash from the community, who seems to already be skeptical of the new design.
The truth is that changing major parts of Roblox will never truly get rid of the old ways.
They still use the R$ brand on hovers over ROBUX icons.
I have to agree with everyone else on this thread, The new roblox icon is not as appealing as the old one and it kind of looks like one of those mobile games currency icons just my opinion though.

Honestly, in my most honest opinion… I prefer this over the original one, despite the nostalgia, and I can see where they were trying to go with this design. The community is making a big deal out of this as usual and even saying that new players won’t recognise it as a currency, but I disagree.
Compared to the original one which was just normal cash, this new one helps convey that sense of ROBLOX being about building and creating.
i think that it looks like a china coin.
I think icons and simplicity is great, but it doesn’t represent anything as to what it is. It’s a hexagon with a square, it has no correlation to currency or value. I even say the same about the current Roblox logo, it’s a tilted square for crying out loud, Roblox is much more than a simple shape.
Icons are supposed to represent things, not be random geometric shapes mashed together.
I really appreciate those updates!
It takes a lot courage to make those changes knowing they will make a lot controversy, but I believe those are great steps forward for the platform.
I can’t wait for what’s coming next! 
But what about they are trying not to look like money but rather trying to have a more futuristic look. The previous Robux icon and all the advertising that came with it was just trying to appeal to people as a premium currency. It was trying to connect the idea of ‘Robux’ with richness. As Roblox evolves and tries to innovate, this obvious had to change.
I’m not sure it is quite true, the company probably did think about this icon a lot and managed to get something really interesting and appealing to the eye.
Nice design. But like I said before, much prefer the old. Also the icon does not fit the theme of the website for mobile. Like every icon and button is black and white. And the new robux icon is gold. Like what? Also when I see the icon, I don’t see it as robux. I just see it as a nut. And if I were a new player I would just see it as something other than ‘bux’ isn’t bux like a dollar? At least put in an R or something in it.
I don’t like it, as well as the premium icon. It’s really difficult to tell what they are (from a younger person’s perspective). Changes to the Robux/Premium icons would’ve been cool, but it just doesn’t have that kids game vibe.
Who said roblox was a kids game? Lol.
After all. They did introduce rthro (which is my worst roblox nightmare) And don’t get me started on those damn scary UGC hats.
I think this is overall a good change. The only thing is now that the R is gone, I almost feel like the name of the currency should be changed now. The R was what made Robux, Robux. Now that the R is gone, is just looks like another currency. The R was what related it to Roblox. You can keep the R while still being modern. Look at this image I found online.
It feels like it only was updated to fit the theme quickly. I do think the image could be updated, just in a better way.
As with the other users, I really don’t care for the new logo. When I first saw it, I did not know it had anything to do with robux until I clicked it. Im not a graphic artist, so here is my crappy take as to what a roblox currency icon might look like re-designed to be more modern
