I made an abandoned warehouse for my game, and I haven’t added any of the lighting yet. It’s not finished yet, because I feel like I can add something more, but I don’t have the brain power to think of more creative ideas. Could anyone tell me what I should add/remove/replace?
Defintley lacking lighting, even for small areas with little to no light/dark areas, there should always be some small source of light, either natural or artificial.
This helps with overall feel of space/atmosphere of the area. If you’re going for an abandoned warehouse with no working lights, you can instead all small holes/broken parts where light peeks through.
Material usage is also an important case to not miss as materials will generally fill your scene’s overall view of how it feels. The floor looks flat without any materials.
Try mixing other materials as well to spice things up such as the upper parts where the supports are, add other small details as well to help bring focus to the overall design.
Random tidbits like trash and debris on the ground will give it a sense of messiness into the mix.
I do go over some components of this in my video as well if you’re interested in viewing it for additional tips:
Thank you for the suggestions! I’m a beginner builder, and this’ll definitely help me!
I have an idea. Maybe add a little detail and flip one or two shelves and maybe leave some items? For example a lamp where the head is broken and the stand is corroded metal.
Perhaps add a little bit of debris on the floor and rotate the shelves a bit to make them look less symmetrical in terms of placing. Otherwise you can also add a few things on the shelves to make it feel a little less empty
Metal railings, walkways, trusses, cable, cardboard boxes,
Maybe add chipped concrete on the floor with union substraction. Also some cracks in the floor would look nice. Adding broken glass and making good lightning (@3rdhoan123) through the partly broken windows would add even more effect. Also that little car: you can separate the fork thingy and make one wheel lie on the ground. Some barrels lying would work.
May I see the new warehouse? I’d love to see what you came up with
Well, the full warehouse isn’t finished yet. I’m focusing on code before I make the graphics.
Perhaps add some boxes and stuff to the shelves themselves, unless there is a particular reason why there isn’t. Add more foliage in other places, and have some grass growing through the ground. You could raise and dent the door(?) and add a bit of light coming from it. Add some spiderwebs and open some boxes. Knock the forklift over. Add some ceiling lights; break them. I dunno if you’re going for a more realistic vibe but I recommend using PBR textures in the material service category (find some free ones in the toolbox). Perhaps add a more distressed brick texture (that is that brick? I can’t see) and scale it up a bit. (I like bigger bricks) Add some random cinder blocks. Break the walls (depends on how long your warehouse has been abandoned for)
