I’ve just had a report from one of the staff on my game that their account recieved a warning for violating the community standards by “spamming chat”. The “offending” chat messages are as follows:
Now, unless I’m literally blind, I don’t see anything here that can be considered spam.
Is it the “gg’s”? The gg’s which were posted no more than once after any in-game round? (which last anywhere in the range of 5-20 minutes by the way).
If not that, then was it when they politely warned another player about their rude behaviour towards others, as is the job of an in-game moderator?
And if you want to know something even better, the user tried appealing the decision multiple times, but was rejected each time within a minute of submitting the appeal, no explanation or reason given. Incredible. Now that’s quick service. Not the right service, but it is quick!
(Fun fact: Each time your appeal gets rejected you get booted from whatever game you’re in and have the same account warning redisplayed, forcing you to acknowledge it once again before being allowed to move on.)
I don’t know if this is a bug with TextChatService or if it would have happened with legacy chat as well (don’t suppose it matters much either as the latter will be unavailable in a couple months).
If anyone has any insight as to what exactly may have triggered this warning to be given, or any advice, it would be much appreciated. It’s deeply concerning when my staff’s efforts to make the in-game experience a safe and fun place are met with the threat of an account suspension. This can’t be how the system is supposed to work.
There will always be moderation mistakes on any sufficiently large platform that has too few moderators. At least it was just a Warning, but maybe the chat logs shown and the chat logs that were actually reviewed are different, or it just looks like spam on the Moderator’s side. Either way, if it is a mistake, then there’s no way to avoid it. If it wasn’t your fault, then there’s nothing you can change to avoid this happening (other than using the chat less, maybe the number of messages contributed).
Wow, Moderation all over the site has been going off the rails lately.
There’s been a bunch of people saying they’re getting randomly terminated for other reasons too
What is happening? Did the algorithm get tweaked or something and it resulted in moderation going into hyperdrive?
The more I think about it the more this bit is bothering me… Like, what process is actually occurring when you try to appeal action taken on your account? Obviously an actual human isn’t reviewing it, so is it just being fed back into the same automated system that deemed the chat inappropriate in the first place? In which case it would inevitably come to the same conclusion?
Has anyone appealed moderation action on their account and actually had it work? Or is the appeal button just there as decoration? I’d love to know.
This has been happening for a while. Around 2 years ago, my brother got a warning for saying GG once, and I for saying “choose that one “ twice for spam.
