Thought on My First GFX Using HDRI?

Hello, I just made my first GFX using an HDRI, and a rig to pose the character. I was wondering what everyone thought.

Thanks for reading!

It looks decent.

Some things I’d point out:

  • The player is extremely disproportionate to the buildings and its surroundings (it looks very tall)
  • The lighting is fairly shaded in half of the area, but the player isn’t shaded in that area (left half)

Other than that, it looks nice. I like the fact that you’ve attempted to put the character on a street- to make it fit in more.

Looks like you just plopped the render down a random building picture, Suggest editing the render and adding in shadows to the render along with moving the character around a bit to make it look like it fits. the lighting of the character also seems to be a bit bright compared to the background

The lighting is very incorrect, there is no shadows to the person and it doesn’t react to the enviroment, which is obviously placed there. He is also too big in it. I suggest learning how to Project From View UV Unwrap.

Hello everyone. I have looked at the replies, and fixed some of the problems. (One I can’t fix without redoing it) Here it is.

Also, the first one did have a shadow for the player, it was just very light for some reason.

The character is very bright, you can use the node editor, (if you’re using blender), to adjust the brightness. As well as the character is disproportionate to the background of the HDRI, I’d recommend setting the background/alpha to transparent rather than the HDRI’s preset image as you’d need to do this for most GFX anyways. I personally custom light all my renders but everyone does have their tricks and what’s comfortable for them. Overall it would get a 5/10 from me.

The shadow isn’t reacting to the building, I suggest you add another plan that is Projected from View To make a wall.
