Thoughts about 1 person max server

With my game I’ve made it so it is only a 1 man server because it only works with 1 person in the game. With a 1 man server are people less likely for buy game passes etc. I could maybe find a way to make multiple people play it. Is 1 man servers ok? It’s a tower defence game but single player.

Playing games where you’re the only conscious being and have to deal with AIs in every game is not entertaining to a degree. Players would most likely go for games with multiple players where they can flex their gamepasses and play the game of “social climbing” etc.

Games with 1 max player would most likely be the short term games with a 5 minute objective and probably horror themed or just to showcase something.

I personally discourage 1 player games.

1 max player games are good for Maybe an application centre but if it will be a game I don’t think people will play it again as they may want to play with friends.

Well, it defer to the game genre/type, since your making a tower of defense game, I think its okay to have 1 player server for your game. But mainly groups use 1 player servers for their application centers.

1 player servers is not a good idea. If you really want yo keep your game singleplayer, you could add a leaderboard.

Hmm… A tower defence game for 1 player onlu? Is it a like protect your tower from (Example: Zombies!!!)

If it’s that type of game it’s good for a singleplayer game.

For gamepasses, i suggest you to make the gamepasses:

  • If there is a currency in-game, make double coins.
  • A weapon that can be bought with robux
  • Effects on the game’s weapons, example: glowing neon green sword

Good luck on your game! :tada:

Sadly, @wevetments is right. Some of the best games on ROBLOX were/are single-player (ex. Silent Dark, Silence, Anxiety, Life of an Otaku, etc), but they never came close to the top 10. Some of these games only got recognition because an influencer played them.

ROBLOX has always been a social platform for “playing with friends”. You can still make a great game without this aspect, but it will be outperformed by similar multiplayer games.

I say make a start “lobby” server with multiple players and then they join a single-player “round” or “game” server, then they go back to the start server when they win or lose. That way people can still have the social aspect of multiplayer but the game is still essentially single-player. This also sets the grounds for multiplayer game modes that might be added later in development. Another idea is to have multiple sections of the world, each for one player, like what tycoons have.
