Thoughts on railgun design

Hey, so I’m working on a sci-fci futuristic fps shooter, and I was modeling a railgun. I think I’m done with the model, but I think there’s room for a ton of improvement (especially those rings, as those are only there because I don’t know what to add in place of them)

Post rendering:

Btw, I took heavy inspo from this gun (One of my fav gun designs):

Any tips for making the model better than it is currently?

For further context:

After I upload the model, I plan on making the coils bobble up an down for an extra effect, and when the railgun is charging, the inside of the rings will slowly turn neon blue.

bumping post, still need feedback

Its blocky. A bit too blocky in my opinion, and that has got to be the most uncomfortable stock known to man.

Make the stock more stock-y, add a trigger, make the grip look more like a grip, where does ammo go in and just less blocks

Theres a compartment for ammo in the bottom, they enter as cells ( essentially just shotgun shells but larger and with a different design ). I’ll make sure to work on the stock and grip, i agree they look really bland rn. How should I remove the blocky look in the middle of the weapon?

The problem I mainly have is the lack of a defined barrel, the lack of anything mechanical to give it the illusion of working and zero beveling, its just solid edges which doesn’t look that good.

Ohhh ok, I see. Thanks, I’ll try to update the model and add more stuff and send a picture later.

Also, i think it might look better with 2 extra “hands”.

Ohh, perpendicular to the two that are already there?

YES exactly i didn’t know how those are called!

Alright, I’ll add them and see if its better. Also, what do you think about the model after some improvements?

Nice! Also one more thing maybe add neon bars on the thingy at the end of the railgun!

I implemented your suggestion, but it pretty much blocks the coil, meaning you wont be able to see the coils bobbing up and down (they’re supposed to be hovering, hence the face that they arent connected to anything). This is how it looks though

Try to make them smaller also the rings should be neon for better visibility!

I plan on making the coils brass, and then they kinda go neon while the railgun is charging. I’ll see if I can use 4, but if I can’t without being able to visibly see the coils I dont think I will

Alright well goodluck man! I will go work on my game!

Yeah bro, good luck to you as well!

This railgun design looks good! Nice job on it! It looks kind of weird in the back though, add more detail to the back of the railgun. How long did this take to make?

Took like a couple of hours but I’m new to modeling, since I’m mainly a scripter. How should I improve the back? Right now the only change made to it is that the loading port is part of the back

this is what it looks like currently
