Tips on producing "game feel"?

Hi!

I’m working on a game but I have been really lacking “game feel”. I’ve added falling leaves but it hasn’t really satisfied. Is there a way to be able to achieve a feel of immersion without being placed in a lifeless town?

Any tips are appreciated!

This already looks like a game I’d want to play simply because of the building. Is there any specific thing that you don’t like? I believe that in terms of immersion, you’re pretty much there.

There are many things that immerse a player:

  • Music (Check?)
  • Beautiful graphics (Check)
  • Objects (grass, flags, etc.) that move with “wind”
  • Imperfections: Contrary to popular belief, a perfect game will have some (intentional) imperfections! Just take a look at real life: it’s messy. So for you, take some fruit of of those baskets and toss them on the floor!

But overall, it’s great. I’d definitely try it out. I hope you find your solution!

Is there a site that you would recommend that produce good music that aren’t copyrighted or have music/sounds that are not particularly expensive?

And I will definitely try to add mess in some locations. Thanks for the help.

I’m not too sure, I don’t have much experience in the music field. Sorry.

You’re welcome! Happy to help

Roblox does have some good free music that you can use.

Add life. It looks good. A couple of chickens and a cow will liven the place up.

Well usually when I play games, I always have that “game feel” that I usually obtain, it’s hard to explain what it feels like. I don’t know whether it is due to the fact that there are players present or because of a particular technique that they implement into their builds.

Great idea! Will definitely use this.

I agreed completely, I’ve personally never walked through London and seen an empty street, silent store or a clear path haha. Think about when you go out for a walk and the little details you notice; wind blowing, sun glaring in your eyes.

If your game is what it looks like maybe add the sounds or swords hitting, a cart rattling or just chatter coming from the markets. You’re trying to replicate reality to produce as you’ve said “game feel”.

Sources (I quickly searched up some non coprighted sounds that map help);

One last idea, when you give characters abilities e.g. Pulling/slashing swords, running, wearing armour, make sure these are visible and audible. If you have 15 players in game you’d have a variety of activities happening, and that for me. Is game feel.

This looks absolutely beautiful. I’m in love with the style and everything blends in so nicely.

Perhaps add flying birds that play a chirping audio?
Animated NPCs would be really cool too! Perhaps make it so you can talk too them too?

Will definitely do this as well!

It may be worth adding a few NPC’s walking around. And as @Astr0Derp has already said

They could also be made to move.

Just keep the end point teleporting so they never reach the end.

But very good work so far, keep it up.

I feel like you solved this somewhat prematurely. There is far too much neon. Tone down the windows and you will have a much more realistic place; as electronic lighting did not exist in the middle ages, the light emanating from windows should not at all be as vibrant as that. Otherwise, you can have my assurance as a realistic medieval builder that it is a great atmosphere.

A water fountain would be cool. Like a park sort of area with benches.
