I’m working on a game but I have been really lacking “game feel”. I’ve added falling leaves but it hasn’t really satisfied. Is there a way to be able to achieve a feel of immersion without being placed in a lifeless town?
This already looks like a game I’d want to play simply because of the building. Is there any specific thing that you don’t like? I believe that in terms of immersion, you’re pretty much there.
Objects (grass, flags, etc.) that move with “wind”
Imperfections: Contrary to popular belief, a perfect game will have some (intentional) imperfections! Just take a look at real life: it’s messy. So for you, take some fruit of of those baskets and toss them on the floor!
But overall, it’s great. I’d definitely try it out. I hope you find your solution!
Well usually when I play games, I always have that “game feel” that I usually obtain, it’s hard to explain what it feels like. I don’t know whether it is due to the fact that there are players present or because of a particular technique that they implement into their builds.
I agreed completely, I’ve personally never walked through London and seen an empty street, silent store or a clear path haha. Think about when you go out for a walk and the little details you notice; wind blowing, sun glaring in your eyes.
If your game is what it looks like maybe add the sounds or swords hitting, a cart rattling or just chatter coming from the markets. You’re trying to replicate reality to produce as you’ve said “game feel”.
One last idea, when you give characters abilities e.g. Pulling/slashing swords, running, wearing armour, make sure these are visible and audible. If you have 15 players in game you’d have a variety of activities happening, and that for me. Is game feel.
I feel like you solved this somewhat prematurely. There is far too much neon. Tone down the windows and you will have a much more realistic place; as electronic lighting did not exist in the middle ages, the light emanating from windows should not at all be as vibrant as that. Otherwise, you can have my assurance as a realistic medieval builder that it is a great atmosphere.
