Hello there, I am working with a few more developers on a new version of one of my games.
We have a lot of UI, From officer’s tasks to money and mini-interactions such as muting boombox.
This is all going good so far but there’s 1 thing I will want to hear some tips on, this is on how do I pick the best color scheme for my game, Currently we have a dark-mode alike scheme but I feel it looks too dark.
I really like your UI. Personally for me, the dark theme provides a modern and sleek look to your interface which is refreshing for me.
However, when you’re considering color scheme, you should think about your audience. Is your target audience for younger players? Or maybe for older players? To my knowledge, brighter and more vibrant color schemes work better for younger audiences while darker and more monochromatic schemes tend to work well with older players.
The one thing you need to keep in mind is to keep a consistent color scheme. From the perspective of a player, ensuring that the color schemes are similar is vital as different color schemes tend to disrupt player experience.
In the end, a big factor is your audience. Determine what your target audience is like and choose your scheme accordingly.
Other than that, I’m really liking your current design! Keep up the good work
I agree! People do have their own preferences, but you should definitely choose a theme and stick with it.
As mentioned before, rapidly changing schemes disrupts player experience. Users adapt to the first UI style they see when they play the game so seeing a different style is a “shock.”
Looking at several games in the market, you’ll see how they have implemented only one theme. Bloxburg, for example, uses a light and modern theme. Many simulators, on the other hand, use bright and cartoony themes.
Even when we look at industry games such as World of Warcraft and Dead Space, they all use one certain scheme and stick with it. WoW uses a RPG style UI color scheme with a dark design and Dead Space also features a dark color scheme to match its horror genre.
Creating multiple themes is up to you, in the end. However I strongly suggest you stick with one theme
You’ll have to determine if this is worth it in your game. Having theme options is nice, but it’s not always worth it if the game doesn’t have much UI. Most popular games don’t have themes, I do know of some UI based games that do.
I feel like this whole repetitive UI is unnecessary. You could just grey out the police option altogether on the initial team selection.
I’d say, personally, that the UI is perhaps too grey. A hint of a dull navy blue would give it a more colourful flavour as opposed to everything being dark and neutral.
The UI looks really nice, I’m assuming that this is for an SCPF game, you hit the mark when it came to SCPF, and this should work out really well for you in the long run, I would advise you to keep the UI scheme as similar as possible because players like to see all of the UI match.
