The problem is that I made this in studio, so it has 700+ parts included in it…
I don’t really know if it is a problem, but can it create lag? If so, how do I fix it?
First I want to say that you did a very nice job, especially for solid modeling. The next thing is that I solid modeling is very inefficient for todays standards with meshes. I would highly suggest learning how to use Blender or another 3D modeling program.
It may cause lag if you use a lot of solid modeling in your game. Using blender will allow you to control your triangle count a little easier.
I mean that I model parts of the well individually, and then put them together. For example, I would make the stone base one mesh, the poles another mesh, and the roof another mesh, and put them all together to complete the well.
It looks great, but I wouldn’t recommend going over 50 parts for a small asset like this. I would suggest building it without so many bevels. A lot of it won’t be too noticeable from a far distance.
It may also help if you reduce the amount of parts that the circular base consists of. If all of those small portions were removed, I don’t think it would make too much of a difference visually.
If you make it on blender it could actually be a few (3-5) meshes, especially if you keep the triangle count low and keep the faces/edges onto to what you need.
I just made one similar, it shouldn’t have to be more than 1 mesh as mine is around 1,300 tris. Unless you wanted to use roblox materials for all the different part instead of a UV map.
How’d you end up getting 1.3k tris :-o ? I would’ve expected around 200-400 tris if you’re going to low-poly.
I quickly-assumed she wouldn’t understand how to texture at the moment, of course it could be one part, but for most beginners they usually begin with more than one mesh.
It does look great. The problem is, it will definitely cause lag. I’d say this is great for showcase only but, if you are looking to make a game with this. You will have to reduce parts by remaking this model in Blender.
You could also just do what Phantom Forces does with their gun models and make a model in roblox and then export it as an obj under File>Advanced. Then import into 3D software and export again to make it like 3 parts instead of 700.
