Did you try changing the ToolGrip properties?
I use a motor6d not a tool grip.

Then you need to rotate the Motor6D by 90 degrees.
The C0 and C1 properties of the Motor6D are the ‘weld’ offset and rotation.
The ToolGrip information I sent earlier has a link to a Tool Grip Editor plugin for just what you are looking for.
