Trackpad support on macOS (Apple Silicon, Intel) no longer functions at all

First, I want to clarify that “no longer functions at all” means attempting to use the trackpad leads to UI stuttering and lag which renders the platform completely unusable. This occurs on both Intel and M-series MacBooks, and this started at around 6pm EDT on the 28th of May for me.

The actual experience is 60+ FPS, but Studio behaves more like it’s 3-4 FPS. Before this update, no matter the complexity of what I was editing, Studio remained smooth and functional.

The only current fix to this problem is using a mouse, which of course is not efficient for travellers and those who are used to the trackpad.

Expected behavior

I expected that Studio would still be smooth and functional on a MacBook while using the built in trackpad.

To confirm: Is every trackpad input is poor? Scrolling, panning and pinch to zoom?

What about keyboard input, notice anything off with that?

I tested scrolling, clicking, dragging, selecting, etc. all of these are delayed across all of studio. Keyboard inputs are delayed when the trackpad is being used, however are fine when its not.

Correct, everything with the trackpad has poor performance. Even if I am not actively engaging with the edit window, simply trying to interact with Studio’s buttons (like saving an experience in the ‘File’ tab), leads to lagging and incorrect/delayed input.

Using a mouse negates all of these problems. But again, this was previously only a problem in Bootcamp, not in macOS itself.

Edit: Using the arrow keys without using the trackpad behaves normally and smoothly for moving around in the edit window.

Can confirm this is happening, input is either majorly delayed or not received at all from trackpads.

For context, I’m experiencing this on a M2 MacBook Air ( 16 GB Ram ) running MacOS 15.5 (24F74) on Studio Version 0.675.0.6750712 (arm64)

I was unable to replicate any issues on macOS 10.15 Catalina with my 2012 MacBook Air
The gestures in the 3d view worked fine and i was able to scroll on all of studio’s UI just fine without lag

We have reason to believe that this bug may involve Force Touch Trackpads ¹.

happening for me as well, as soon as I use my trackpad, studio behaves extremely slow.
currently impossible for me to edit any games without an external mouse.

for performance, it doesn’t affect my cpu usage.

16 GB Ram
MacOS 15.5

this is issue is only happening when using the trackpad on mac

I am also experiencing the same issues but when I use a mouse everything is normal and theres no lag and stuff

I don’t like using a mouse for work because I don’t have a table to use it on
I mainly use the trackpad

I am currently having this issue too, I thought it was just me and my MacBook bugging out but no other app had this issue.

I’m using:
MacBook Air M1, 2020
16 GB RAM
macOS Sequoia, 15.5

Building anything now is basically impossible 75% of the time, and Studio just starts to lag when I use my trackpad to move.

Can some people comment on whether they’re experiencing this with Client as well, or is it only Studio?

I have the same issue on Studio, but Roblox Client works fine for me.

I’m also experiencing this issue and it only happened after the update. Scripting in studio is impossible when everything is delayed by a couple of seconds. I tried to test it in a live roblox game and there seems to be no issue.

It only appears to happen on Studio, where at the moment my Mac has beach-balled…
And I haven’t even saved yet ;-;

I reverted a flag which might be related.

Could you restart Studio and see if things have improved?
