Transpose featured and top earning categories on games page

in this screenshot of the games page, you can see there are 5 duplicate games appearing in the top earning category. i feel like this is a lot of wasted space. while i think the top earning category is useful for some developers to gauge how they are preforming relative to competition, the space would be a lot better utilized by featured games that aren’t getting very much attention.

when the so-called “featured” games are buried towards the bottom of the games page, it feels more like it’s the, “we think these games are cool but theyre not actually earning us money” category. if this isn’t intentional, it should definitely be changed.

(if it is intentional, i think a good compromise would be to switch the positions of top-earning and popular categories, and then, with any games that appear on the first ‘page’ of the top-earning category, make sure that those games don’t appear as duplicates in the first ‘page’ of the popular category. that way the amount of unique games displayed to players can be increased without compromising any of the ‘play these games cause they make us money’)

The game worth spending money is worth playing, that’s why the two are connected.

I feel like these posts are made by players who made a game but didn’t reach fame. I feel you, it has become harder to make it in Roblox, but bashing on the popular of top earning category is not the way to go.

It’s the recommended tab that matters most, since new players see like 4 rows of recommended. Your guess is as good as mine as to how that sort works

I don’t think @juddily was bashing at anyone in his post, it seems quite fair to me without any ‘emotional’ bias from ‘hatred’.

I think he’s just being logical in his reasoning, and does not see the logic in the current front page (either do I tbh).

The first thing any Xbox player see’s is the featured sort, why isn’t it the same on PC or Mobile? I understand that the Xbox features go through the QA team and the PC one’s don’t, but they still are featured for a reason.

I think Featured not being located as the first category on platforms other than XBox is just due to the nature of ROBLOX. ROBLOX is a UGC platform – content is created for users by users. Featured games are staff-picked, and aren’t necessarily in-line with what the users want. It’s also the least “fair” of all the categories since users have 0 ability to affect their placement in the sort. Overall I think the Featured sort is great for exposing games users would like and providing a higher-quality selection of games, but I can understand not making it the primary focus of the PC/mobile Games pages for the reasons outlined above.

i’m not trying to hate on games that make money or games that are popular, i couldn’t care less. what i really don’t want to see are duplicate games, and i thought the easiest solution to that would just be to switch top paid and featured. it’s not that i don’t think top paid should be a category, or that i have some grudge against successful developers, it’s that i think that having the same game 2 or even 3 times in different categories just, aesthetically, looks really, really terrible. (and also makes it harder for new or unique games to have a place on the front page).

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean bashing as it hating.
I ment it as in accusing, putting the blame on.

I still think top paid is just as legit as the popular tab.

What could be, and should be, a new category would be the “random” category. Which shows random games that has over 100 players but isn’t in the popular tab. That’s how new games could be made famous.

ROBLOX should have more sorts that are automatically tailored to the user’s demographic/preferences, rather then having all of them be “one size fits all,” which ends up skewing more towards the younger demographic but alienating the older demographic.

The “because you liked X” sort is a good start to this - I think they should move more towards a full-fledged “recommended for you” sort based on all of a user’s/demographic’s preferences combined, and move it closer to the top, perhaps separating Popular and Top Earning.

I think it would be confusing if a game that was both extremely popular and extremely high-earning was hidden from one of the sorts for an arbitrary reason unbeknown to the end user. (I agree it’s silly to have so many duplicate games next to each other, I just think the solution is to separate them out more and add better sorts rather than arbitrarily hide games)

i think it would also be worth revamping the whole ‘genre’ system into something closer to the way steam uses tags on their games, the genres have been around since like 2011 or something and they haven’t gotten any love. [quote=“Cindering, post:9, topic:31987”]
