Triple Hat Combo Used To Be Enough

There’s not just “Hats” hats anymore, there’s other large categories of hats now, such as: scarves, glasses, ties, hair, headphones, bodywear (poncho, bandolier, shoulderpads), antlers, capes, WINGS, facial hair, and other stuff I may have missed out. I may want to include at least 4 of these articles of clothing onto my character which I think is fair, but Triple Hat Combo is preventing that. Was customizing my character recently and ran into this problem for about the 4th time now.

I’m requesting that the Triple Hat Combo be increased, not sure to what since I don’t exactly know how to justify it, but since there’s now such a wide selection of hats so much that they’re not just “hats” anymore, choosing just 3 isn’t enough. Maybe 5? Again I don’t know the science behind why “3” was alright back then, but there’s loads of selection now, triple hat combo used to be enough.

I’ve requested this a lot. Whilst I’d like it to be increased to something more than 3, it can trash a server with hats if the limit was bumped up too much. It also can weigh down your character if wearing larger hats. Otherwise, I’d like an increase to the limit.

I’ve run into this problem a few times too. Mostly because like you said, there’s more hats that aren’t necessarily hats that go on your head, but they allow me to make more complete outfits. I don’t think there’s many outfits I’d make that’d go beyond 4 hats, so that number would work for me, but that’s open to discussion.

There is many a time where I could’ve used 4 hats, primarily to wear a hat, hair, a back item, and a scarf or something in front of my character. Not to mention a lot of people also have pets/shoulder items.

From what I understand, some sort of reworking of the hat wardrop system is underway. I don’t know if it was said on a stream or at one of the events I was at, but I’ve definitely heard that they’re working on re-categorizing hats to address this issue.

I think hats need to have equip slots. First this would allow different hats with different slots to be equipped at the same time by walking over them ingame. Second this would limit the hats you’re allowed to wear to two per slot so nonsense characters are somewhat limited while actual characters are free to customize.

Now that I think of it, I wonder if Roblox will ever add in new categories to further classify hats. Such as ‘Glasses’, ‘Wings’, ‘Capes’, etc. That would be pretty neat. I wonder if they’ll ever do this, though if so, it obviously won’t be for quite some time.

I believe it has such a short max because they want to keep the poly amount down. You can’t exactly filter every single high-poly hat on the catalog (more will be created and it’ll take forever to look at them and see which ones are complex) yourself, so ROBLOX has to make up for this and ensure that characters don’t bring too many polygons with them into the game with that hat limit.

Say we do bump the limit up to 2 per category and there are four categories (back, hat, mask, front (ties, etc)) – if someone maxes out on that, they’ll have 8 hats plus the package they’re possibly wearing. I believe an optimal solution would be to have a “complexity” bar that is filled up by the polygons worn on your character (similar to the sims and furniture for the house), and you can wear as many hats and a package on top as long as you don’t breach the complexity limit. For those of us that never use packages, we’d easily be able to fit on more hats, but for those people who already have high-poly outfits, they won’t be able to add more (which is good for performance reasons.) Whether a package + 3 hats (in general) is the acceptable amount of polygons or a package + 10 hats (in general) is the acceptable amount is beyond me, but I feel that a complexity bar better fulfills ROBLOX’s drive to keep character poly amounts low and users’ ability to customize their character to their liking.

I’d really love a maximum of 5 hats. I feel like I could complete any outfit I wanted at that point.

Anyone can wear 3 hats

Builders club can wear +1 hat
TBC +2
OBC + 3

I like this.
It’s a completely visual change that doesn’t really have any effect on gameplay.
I also feel that Hat objects should negate the physics of their children so that all players are weighted equally.

Some of my games use a script I made that makes hat size 0.2,0.2,0.2, so weight is negated 99%.

When you drop the hats into workspace they become size 2,2,2 so they collide fine, then back to tiny when picked up.

Here’s the script that resizes them to 0.2,0.2,0.2 on your head.

Edit: Here’s the script that resizes them back to 2,2,2 in the workspace & allows you to pick up 5 hats off the ground:

What would happen if roblox used something like this? What games would mess up if hats entering workspace & being picked up were resized like this?

But you should be able to still wear outfits you made with that bonus after you lose BC.

I agree, the hat system should not only increase the limit, but should also add categories as well; ie Chestpiece, Shoes, Neck, wrist, etc.

If correctly made, you can have a watch that goes around a square wrist that moves along with the arm, or wear shoes that stay with your feet. Also you would have a tail or necklace that wont float in random positions when using animations, or when your head is moved.

Hats are no longer just hats, people.

The problem with wearing more hats is that they weigh a lot. Empty character mass is 12, one 2x3x4 hat instantly triples that. If Roblox made it so hats don’t have mass, developers could trust character physics better. It’s just an appearance, why does it need to interact physically at all?

Do players and their hats really make that much of a difference compared to all of the parts, meshes, unions, etc. that can be put in games?

Just let roblox have same character menu as club penguin has C:

It’s very odd that items like scarves, wings and capes don’t actually attach to the torso

I would love to be able to wear 4 hats at once. The only downside is the current way hats are on ROBLOX is the more you wear the lower quality they are which they say is to reduce lag. Me and other retexture artist don’t like that there quality gets decreased the more hats you wear cause it makes them look bad i’m sure you have all seen this especially with wings or any of the big heads. An example of this would be 1 of my publishes: Hooded Cloak of the Astral Isles - Roblox it looks good alone but as soon as you add another hat gets really blurry. I’m just worried how blurry hats would get with 4 or more.
