Hi all,
Every UGC creator I know says the same thing: we’ve all put off getting a UGC collection up on the catalog because we avoid the very tedious process that is uploading bulk UGC.
I’ll illustrate the pain point with a common example: a hair mesh. I want this hair mesh to have 6 colors since I want to appeal to a broader audience. Thankfully, I only need to set up the accessory in studio once and swap out the textures each time. But, to upload, I would need to receive the upload window 6 times, name it appropriately 6 times, provide the right description, and (most annoyingly) tag it with its corresponding tags 6 times. On average, this can take away an hour of my time when wanting to scale to more than just one hair.
I would love to see improvement on the upload tooling side to ease bulk uploading. Maybe that is creating “groups” of meshes that are validated as similar with different textures. On a separate, but somewhat related note, I hope there is a future where recolors of items can be displayed on the side of a catalog listing to help improve discoverability (think seeing color swatches under the listing name for a product on Amazon).
My next point related to bulk uploading is the tags. I wish tags could be easily grouped into some saved presets to make it easier to tag items. It would make it easier than having to type them in every time, whereas clicking a saved “Summer” preset pulls up the terms Mermaid, Beach, Cool, etc. in one click. Right now the tagging system is also a lot of guesswork, and if a “tag” doesn’t exist in the system, you can’t put it. I’ve wanted to tag things like Y2K and I can’t, but 2000s exists-- I don’t know many Gen-Z/As that are calling it that, and I wonder how that is affecting discoverability. In addition, sometimes attempting to put a tag in studio that doesn’t exist breaks the entire upload window, not allowing you to click off or type from the tag element-- forcing you to start all over again. Maybe it’d be nice to have a list of what tags are available to us for use, or letting us make our own tags. I think having transparency on tags to begin with would be helpful-- just like games get suggestions on different KPIs in the dashboard, it would be nice to know whether the tags we are selecting are improving discoverability/sales (I recognize this is less of a studio issue and more of an overall web issue.)
Thank you !
