ROBLOX can stop doing their own sales, simple enough. Developers are getting more privileges and power on the platform, ROBLOX can use UGC as a way to leave it up to the developers to make their own sales. I don’t know why ROBLOX would stop their own sales, but it seems like a route that they can take now that UGC is out. I’m not saying it’s a good or bad thing either if they do end them.
I like the idea of Community Creations, since this means more items every day from our own community
Although, my one problem about this is when the content creators put a “{ 15% OFF }” or something along those lines right in front of their item’s name. An example would be of this: https://www.roblox.com/catalog/3709584632/15-OFF-The-Typical-Texan-Tycoonist
I personally get OCD over this, since it makes the catalog like the shirt page with “LIMITED” and “NEW!” preceding every piece of usually stolen clothing to get more users to buy it; However, I would consider this false advertisement since they are neither New or Limited (In most cases).
I’m not saying the hats will be like the shirts page with stolen items and/or false advertisement, It just makes things a bit messy with all the discounts on items with a diverse way of formatting. Maybe ROBLOX should add a sale system which would display any discounts from the creator clearly on the item? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Now I’m not an expert, but here’s a possible design of what I’m thinking of?
If you have any thoughts on my reply or if you found anything I said a bit confusing, please let me know.
Or we could stick to the format that ROBLOX has set for new items, for example:
I definitely agree with that placement. Also, another good idea (In my Opinion) for ROBLOX UGC would be to have a set time on how long something could be on sale, for example:
You could only have a hat at a discounted price for a set time (maybe one to three days at the max). There’d be a cooldown when you can do another discount on that item again for maybe 2 weeks. Although I see a problem with this proposed system due to the fact that when UGC is released to a wider variety of people, people may abuse this system and put everything on sale to make players think it’s a special item.
Thanks for replying; it shows that people may or may not be interested in my proposition
Exactly and I can agree with that. Mainly just because, I am not exactly sure how to describe it accurately but it feels selfish to try to bait such sales or just from likes on a Twitter post, it needs to be at a sensible time.
This change is very good, so i want to se the open UGC catalog. I think devs should can create hats and wings and make events as egg hunt to win visits and give some items to the player.
It would be a nice change for the live ops, because these events doesn’t give prizes but if developers make avents with prizes it would be amazing.
As a player, i enjoy every event like egg hunt and i think live ops are a good idea, but live ops that give you UGC items are a GREAT idea
I don’t want this system to be public what so ever. The Roblox community isn’t sophisticated enough to trust users not to abuse this feature. I think all users should be carefully hand selected by Roblox admins and should come with instant program removal if abused.
What’s going to happen to the items that aren’t able to make it through the QA testing?
WhoToTrus’ large dimmadome hat is probably still in his inventory. Will the items that can’t pass QA testing just be left in the creators inventory instead of being deleted? Because I feel that eventually people would create a game breaking item, take a 1-2 week suspension and come back and begin toying around with a game breaking item, as they’re not being deleted.
From what i’m aware the hat has been patched and size restrictions have been set in place.
I’m aware of the hat being changed, but I’m talking about the original item. It still has the over sized mesh, what I was eluding to was that people could create hats to purposefully get denied from QA testing, as Roblox hasn’t/won’t delete the item and its assets. The owner will still have access to the item and could use it to toy around in games ruining the experience for some players.
An example would be creating a game breaking hat would be one that has dynamic lighting that would basically over saturate the game. Another would be one that covers the entire body of a character, an item like this could ruin game genres like SF or hide and seek.
You could get this purposely denied by QA, but you’ll still have the item in your inventory.
My original point was that Roblox should delete hats or their assets that are denied by QA to prevent any future situations.
I’m curious if anything will happen with old retextures, and if it would ever be possible to take ownership of retextures published back when RAOC was the closest to UGC hats you could get. I know its not likely, but it is a curiosity I had.
Is there a away to apply into the waves of UGC creators?
I realize that users currently must release their own original items (not re-textured)
My concern comes to what limitations is ROBLOX going to put on the system, that still protects the limited item market. Currently it seems like nothing is technically stopping anybody from creating a new fedora model, and then making their own sparkle-texture and releasing their own sparkletime fedora or dominus, ect.
I think that for users that have invested time into their account value, and into trading this new feature seems like a very threatening concept.
I also believe that UGC can threaten the existence of the uniqueness that tradable and of off sale items have.
But seeing items like the new Biggest Head, being a blatent copy of Big Head worries me about the future of the catalog could be. If resizing a classic item and changing one aspect that makes it unique is considered original, people are going to capitalize on this type of hat creation.
If items like Biggest Head are able to go through, then seeing a Dominus knock off coming soon wouldn’t surprise me as the idea of a Dominus is simply just a hood that shrouds the users head.
Biggest Head is now off-sale and listed as being created by ROBLOX, so I suppose that partially answers your concern, though we don’t know the behind-the-scenes story.
Edit: Tarabyte is listed as the creator again. Maybe it’s a question of ROBLOX only wanting it to be available at rare times.
Given that soon enough more users will be added to the group of UGC users, would it be something to worry about if those users start taking commissions for hats? What will happen if YouTubers or popular ROBLOX Devs who aren’t in UGC start paying UGC users to make merch promoting them or their games? Would this be against any sort of rules of UGC, or ROBLOX in general? This is something we also really have to think about if this is a problem we’ll soon face.

I don’t think that this should be allowed. Personally, I believe this item should be taken down, as it doesn’t show any user creativity, and its just an up-scaled version of Biggerhead…
This is a very tricky topic to discuss. While some of the items being released aren’t exactly groundbreaking in terms of their creativity, we have to ask ourselves: who, how, and what determines an items creativity? It’s a difficult thing to police.
But for every lackluster hat, there’s a sea of creative and innovative ones forming in the catalog!
They took it off sale due to it looking way to similar to Big Head I assume. Here’s the original texture Biggest Head had. I compared the two colors in photoshop and they were the exact same color, so I suppose Roblox changed it due to it looking too similar to Big Head. Now it’s a blue texture with the new Roblox smile,
It’s more acceptable that way but I still feel like you can add hats into an existing hat collection like Dominus’, Valks and Sparkle Time series, the same way Biggest Head was added into the Big and Bigger head collection. Though that really depends on how QA testing and moderation works.
Knockoff versions of popular Limited series items might affect the values of the originals, so I think it’s something that should be approached carefully. I 100% anticipate a Sparkle-Time Domino Dominus Valk Crown flood, and it’d make a lot of people unhappy if that negatively affected the values of the Limited counterparts.
Though if UGC hats can’t have effects, I foresee all Limited hats with effects going up in value.
The moderators should. In my opinion, at least initially, any knockoffs of Roblox hats shouldn’t be allowed. It’s not helping anyone. And no matter how you spin it, it’s not creative.
(This isn’t targeted to you @copuni) After a few weeks with UGC, I personally feel like it’s okay. I was genuinely expecting community hats to be awesome (because everything the community makes is awesome, especially hand-picked developers!) but the majority of them are already low-effort and ugly. They’re basically only usable for trolling. Even worse, the catalog page is covered with “[SALE]” text in the titles which just looks dumb.
I’m extremely disappointed with how UGC is being handled. If it continues to go down this road, I cannot foresee myself using this in the future.
