UGC Catalog is Now Live!

They do and it makes it unfair for other players, as you have a greater advantage.

This is why Nikilis has banned these types of UGC items to try and make it more fair for the players.

Yet, more and more of these items are coming out which makes it harder to control and more items to ban.

Is the UGC available for all developers yet, or is it still limited to those that were chosen originally?

Not yet. It seems like a cherry-picking job. Roblox is letting only privaleged and well-known creators to use this feature.

I agree with this in every way. This is the downside to making this feature open to a select few creators. There has been multiple instances of this happening, with one recent incident being the Bighead Waist made by Reverse_Polarity. Roblox should either open the UGC catalog to more creators, or start putting more restrictions on the current ones before the UGC catalog is released to the public.

This system would definitely supress the bad buisness practice of making copied hats to earn tons of Robux. The UGC creator (or copier?) currently only has to worry about the item being taken offsale. However, the Robux was still earned. If Roblox put this system in place, the UGC creator wouldn’t just have to worry about their item being taken offsale, they would have to worry about the Robux not being given to them and the item possibly being deleted.

This is exactly what credit card companies do. They delay the payout just in case the consumer decided to initiate a chargeback, because of low-quality products or identity theft.

Deleting the items that already exist isnt really an option.

With Youtubers using those types of items to their advantage, probably tens of thousands have bought them already.

Also, I think accessories like this should simply be automatically scaled down ingame instead of being removed completely.

I get these items are annoying to some developers, but we still have to remember that people spend their hard-earned money on them.

Preventing them from wearing what they want isnt the solution here…it’s better to just have a system where giant accessories are shrunk down.

If your games mechanics can be broken through avatar, or if your game has strong theming, you should be using a custom avatar system.

The UGC Catalog is awesome and very interesting, but one thing most of the players of Robloxia don’t like about some of the UGC items are that they were copied and very similar to the original Roblox hats and items. Overall the UGC content is very good.

Sadly, Roblox seems to be extremely reluctant to let more developers create UGC.

There is a simple reason why they want to add new creators in small, hand-picked ‘waves’. Roblox wants to pick the people that they know are skilled and are likely to create profitable hats. Less well-known developers aren’t well known by Roblox, so they are less likely to get picked.

Looks like us less well-known developers and modelers will have to move to TurboSquid or somewhere else soon!

So I noticed one of the following things and that is Uploading more then 1 item with diffrent coloring. Example:

I was trying to think of a way to clean up the website a little and came out with an idea.
Make it so people can pick a color from the 1 item. Something like amazon would do with shoe sizing.

It just seems a bit lazy to see “Giant (Gold) [Thing] #1005” that are specifically said to allow you to “flex your economy” and similar sentiments. I’d also almost go so far to say that that’s a bit exploitative of younger mindsets, who are instantly attracted to the biggest, most obnoxious thing available that they are told allows them to “flex.”

The recoloring is also a problem, but only because it clutters things up and it’d be fine if they did what the poster above me said and made it a color selection Amazon-style all within the same page.

To be completely fair, they don’t have a reason not to make a line of retextures. I mean, ROBLOX themselves are no strangers to THAT.

UGC is great since it’s promoting developers to be creative and earn money off of it. It’s just that it doesn’t have sale ‘events’. Like the Black Friday Sales, or the Memorial Day Sales. They were fun to watch, and it brought everybody together. If ROBLOX were to do the same for UGC, I think more Robloxians would appreciate it, and would welcome it into the community. Also, I think it would give developers better pay, since there is an event, and many players would get excited, and buy the UGC items. Here is what ROBLOX needs to do to make this possible:

  1. Add sale events to UGC like the Memorial Day Sale
  2. Developers have to start making BETTER items
  3. Developers add as much items as they want, maybe there could be a limit depending on ROBLOX

To add on to the number 2, in which I stated that developers have to start making BETTER items, I meant that they can’t just throw in random things that first comes to mind. They have to think about it, like that item thats in the UGC catalog, its a porta potty! Like, how does that even get through QA? I mean yeah its funny, ROBLOX also made some funny stuff, but like, please at least make GOOD items from time to time. ROBLOX made the Workclock and Clockwork series, why not make a series for a brand? Developers… get your game ON. Sure you made a lot of sales with the funny items, but imagine a cool series like Workclock on sale for below 1k robux? Imagine how much more sales you would make. Please keep this is mind as ROBLOX expands to the future.

This is the FIRST time I am complaining about UGC. The item I showed above is an actual UGC item and to most people, it is obvious copyright infringement. Let me just make clear that I LOVE Spongebob and wish stuff like this was allowed. But the thing is, Roblox could get sued if they keep allowing obvious copyright infringement on the UGC catalog.

They can’t get sued since they didn’t create it themselves (safe harbour). Aside, I’d personally consider that transformative.

To be honest, Roblox is unlikely to do anything about copyright infringement unless they get a complaint from the copyright holder or if it’s a reference to a competitor (like minecraft). And the copyright holders are unlikely to complain unless the problem gets big enough.

Remember the Pokemon Brick Bronze incident? It was taken down only because Roblox received a request from The Pokemon company to take it down. And if Pokemon Brick Bronze had been a small game that wasn’t very famous, The Pokemon Company wouldn’t have given a second look at it, if they’ve given a first look at all.

Only issue I/people have with the recolors coming out is that they are being spammed. The retextures you mentioned came out over the course of years, vs UGC retextures coming out over the course of a week/month. If UGC creators didnt’t spam the catalog, I personally wouldn’t mind.

Only allowing UGC recolors to show up in a drop down bar you suggested would work.

Allowing each creator to have a limited number of hats on-sale at a time could suppress over-saturation of hats entirely, because no one wants to have all their hats duplicates of each other.

I’m so happy that UGC is out! As for concerns about copying the roblox staff will get on top of anyone that does that. We have nothing to fear!
