I’m trying to apply for UGC but i can’t come across the limit for the texture size. Most of the outdated sources say its 256x256 and some UGC creators saying its been raised to 1024x1024 though i can’t find a source to that, I don’t want to risk being rejected because of a texture size so does anyone have a source on whether its been raised or not…?
texture limit is 1024x1024
4k tris limit
no limit on verts
source: from me, a person who uploads ugc items (btw in studio the accesory texture is scaled down to 256x256 but not when its published)
alright, so i guess there shouldn’t be a problem with me applying with 1024x1024 textures… thanks for the response
Oh wow, when did the limit get raised? I was struggling to fit everything into a 256x image and make it look good, so this is great to hear.
Hey Icy,
Is there documentation somewhere on the vert limit? I can’t seem to find anything stating that.
forgot to mention a few things:
- Texture may be scaled down for R6 (not sure how accurate this is I just heard it)
- Surface Appearances can be used on layered clothing and have a max texture limit of 256x256
-
Mesh Budget - The maximum geometry budget for your asset can’t exceed 4000 tris.
-
Texture Budget - Texture maps can’t exceed 1024x1024px. Assets using additional maps with SurfaceAppearance can use smaller 256x256px maps to optimize performance with virtually no loss in detail.
-
Mesh Size - Meshes must follow a standard size (in studs, centered on attachment point) depending on its type:
I’m still unsure how the SurfaceAppearance resolution limits work.
Does the texture map also have to be 256px in order to use SurfaceApperance? Can we use a 1024px texture map with SurfaceAppearance or do all the maps have to be the same resolution?
- Surface Appearances can be used on layered clothing and have a max texture limit of 256x256
I have already stated this in the comment you replied to…
Edit: reading the documentation again it does not say must but it says can use a 256x256 for surface appearances
Do you only upload or do you model?
Is this normal?
I’m using a single 1024x1024 texture, but it looks lower resolution when being worn.
Icy (one of the people who replied to this post) said that in Roblox Studio the accessory texture will be scaled down in resolution to 256x256 but when uploaded (if you’re in the UGC program) will look normal in 1024x1024 resolution
