UGC Program: Expanding Creation and Monetization with Avatar Bodies and Heads

Hey, creator of the rig here, they look funky in the preview because theyre forced to use rthro scaling. If you use them without rthro scaling they work as intended.

I donā€™t have a use case for R15 in my games, the only reason why I use them is for animations and user avatar customizability. Or the game is coded specifically for R15.

Only ONE of my games has ā€œPlayer Choiceā€ as the option for rig type, which I will be sure to incorporate in my newer places. Itā€™s really up to the player to decide, right?

I havenā€™t personally experienced any issues with R15 regarding misplaced bones or seams. Can you provide an example?

ah, that makes sense. very nice to see it on the catalog, although i do wonder why roblox doesnā€™t just adopt something like that and make it into the default blocky body.

Allowing these bundles to be free is a huge mistake. The standard set for the general public is now ā€œfreeā€, so any paid bundle is barely going to be looked at in comparison with a free one. Not sure about anybody else here, but I have zero interest in spending the better part of two days working on a bundle thatā€™s remotely decent, to have it be not even looked at by 99% of people purely based on it being a paid item. Itā€™s all great and nice that you guys like to skew and/or make up statistics about R15 and Rthro to show the board, your playerbase is not as stupid.

ā€œYou can see in these sales figures how many people choose to buy (FREE ā† omit this in final board-approved presentation) the new creator-made bundles instead of using the default provided bundles. It seems like the players are shifting away from the more classic styles.ā€ -some idiot, probably

Maybe suggest to the board to stop this nonsense where you force down everyoneā€™s throat some VR chat-style of avatar with all the dynamic heads and facial recognition. I realize they probably want to try and succeed where Zuck failed, but there are a lot of good reasons for why he failed and Roblox has no business diving off that same cliff.

No upload fee? Great, catalog will be filled with spam. Public UGC though, right?

I forgot what else I wanted to say. Good idea, completely dumb execution.

Arguably youā€™d want to fill in a niche others arenā€™t. Itā€™s all default edits or ā€˜normalā€™ furries, and only a few robots. Oh, and the fnaf crew and skeletons. I personally am looking into ā€˜non-standardā€™ animals for avatars to get into UGC - thereā€™s no competition and likely wonā€™t be yet thereā€™s going to be people who want it. You just have to get creative with it, right?

The lack of quality control is abysmal. Most of the packages uploaded are just slightly altered versions of a template.

They donā€™t even try hiding it. Itā€™s a shame that the people who actually put hard work into modelling are overshadowed by these cheap duplicates flooding the whole category.

Geez Iā€™m afraid to get started on the piggy back ride bundle. Because they said you can only make 1 head, 1 torso, 2 arms, and 2 legs.

But technically itā€™s 1 head but basically itā€™s 2 heads joined together as 1 head. And the torso will have a torso with the rest of the piggy back riderā€™s body.

(And to be honest I wrote this on here, hoping an admin or someone that works for Roblox will see and tell me if Iā€™m allowed to or not lol)

When can we get in on the public release.

From what Iā€™m seeing, my guess is probably not until a while. The main reason I think they donā€™t make it public is because people copy other Playerā€™s work, and it looks like that is still happening in UGC sort of, except theyā€™re copying things Roblox made, so Iā€™m guessing not until a while. But thatā€™s just my guess

Do bodies need to be R15 Compatible?

  • Yes, all avatars must be R15 because of their advanced animation and motion. R15 has 15 body parts which make it look and feel more realistic. R15 also has access to the latest animation technology like animate your avatar . Today, 98% of Roblox users have R15 avatars, so these new bodies and heads will be compatible with the avatar bodies and heads that most users have.

This is probably true if Roblox is considering all accounts ever created on their platform, but it would be nice if they showed the true ratio of R15/R6 since probably most accounts on the platform have been inactive (accounting for probably if not millions of throwaway accounts, etc.) for maybe at least a year or two, and with Roblox doing some things "changing a bunch of inactive accounts from R6 to R15 around 2017" and probably more little things like how every new account around the same time to present day being automatically put into R15.

Also just checked it out but it looks a bit difficult now (havenā€™t been on the avatar page for awhile) for new users to even find the Body Type Slider in the avatar section since itā€™s tucked in Head & Body > Scale > Body Type Slider (it even looks a bit more difficult to find/know about on mobile since you have to scroll all the way down when you get to the Scale area) instead of it just possibly being a small slider on the front of the avatar editor page.

so I wonder why 98% percent of Roblox ā€œusersā€ (shouldā€™ve specified it as accounts) have R15 avatars instead of R6 :upside_down_face:

edit: yeah I know Iā€™m like 1-2 weeks late on this post but all of my posts are like that since I donā€™t really use Roblox much except like a few times a month and even less on the Devforum

as of right now ive been waiting since april 7th there is people on this fourm that has waited for 2 years and got no reply yet theres also people who just applied 2-3-4 month ago that just got in the ugc program and yet those who are still waiting is put in the dark im not saying its a waste becuse it builds experience to make things and try different styles but rn alot of us has been waiting and have not heard anything from them at all what im more saying is that they are focus more on release to the public instead of putting the time to go through those who has not only took there time and effort and also have mostly deleted and redid there project over and over again to get better i feel like those who have applied should and deserve the chance to get in and get accepted way before they release it to the public.

from what i keeping getting told is they let 15 people in per month could have increased since then but thats what ive been told they also do not go down a a,b,c,d, order they just go through them. if they dont reply to those who applied then they mostly skipped over alot of people is what im thinking again i feel like they have left those who has potential in the dark and they are focused on public release becuse rn its open to very very limited verified users

already mentioned this to this guy over comms but for anyone else to see, hereā€™s why the 98% is actually accurate

ok so roblox has around 4.9 billion accounts with 200 million monthly active users right? that comes out to around 4.7 billion inactive accounts. Most of those accounts were made after r15 as bots or alts, and many of those users never switched to r6. Out of the many that did, or those that were r6 prior to r15 being added, roblox has forced many of them into r15. This would lead to almost all of those 4.7 billion inactive accounts being r15.

4.7/4.9 would be 95.9183673% but weā€™ll round up to 96%. That means we have 4% of users that are active. 2% of those have to be r15 to get to 98%, which leaves 2% being r6. This means that we have 2% that are active and r15 and 2% that are active and r6. A roughly equal split.

Iā€™m sure that there are more users that are r15 than r6, but if you do the math it comes out to users being split 50/50, and if you go into games that allow both avatar options, this looks to be the case. Sure r15 and r6 tend to be divided by audience and genre (almost every game where your hitbox matters that doesnā€™t have a custom character is r6, for instance, whereas most RP or social games are r15 only)

A bit annoying with how roblox is accepting users. Iā€™ve got premium 1000 and ID verification (which people have rumored is the requirements for public UGC) and I have what Iā€™d consider at least to be pretty good UGC items, yet both my applications Iā€™ve sent were skipped, one in September and one in November. The fact a worse UGC creator that applied at a later date can get added in before me because roblox skips over users is outrageous.

Yes i know but @Taragaeot is right, this only our chance to get in one time for ever on UGC Program or we risk to need wait months or after we need keep resend application many times without any response!
