As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to Re-release same UGC item twice.
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my development experience because this would allow users to restock items that are very much liked by the community.
Hi, over the past few years I’ve been releasing monthly FREE UGC items. People love my items, both paid and free, Limited or unlimited.
However, there’s a few items which I would like to restock overtime.
For example, releasing a certain item, and then a lot more people wanna buy it.
I understand the whole point of “limited” items is to be limited, but that still doesn’t help restocking and distributing free items.
I think it would be nice to be able to restock free UGC items with a fee. For example 110 Robux for each copy after the original stock.
Currently the only way to “restock” items, is to reupload the item a second time and redistribute it. This goes against Roblox’ ToS and will result in having 2 items that look the same, but different RAP and resale price.
I would love to see restocking for UGCs become a thing.
Would also be nice that if a user gets terminated with a copy of an item, their stock returns upon 6 months after their termination. This would ensure that the stock is never lost and always kept in circulation!
It would help make events with prizes more sustainable long-term. If Free UGC is awarded through gameplay, then at most only 3,000 players can earn it. Afterwards the game owner has to upload a new prize and update the script.
Hey there, thanks for the feature request and a quick question for you all:
Would you be able to use this feature if it required “resellable” to have never been turned on on the UGC? So once you decide to turn on resales, you can no longer add stock after that point?
Going further than that, can you still use this feature if it just disabled making the item resellable forever, if you added stock even just once?
There are some concerns how we would handle expectations of the consumer if the value of the UGC item in the market can be reduced by adding more stock later. So I want to make sure what constraints you actually can live with here, as it makes the feature more straightforward to ship if we can put down some more guardrails on this.
My opinion is that there should be an option when setting the stock for the first time where it asks if the uploader wants the item to be resellable in the future, if they decline then they will never be able to add more stock onto the item and if they accept then they will always be able to add more stock when they want, both of these options lasting forever (the choice which has been chosen when creating the first stock stays for the entire time the ugc lives), and then what I would call the most important thing is finding the best way to tell other players that the item has been set to “resellable”, whether it’s by adding a new tag to the ugc icon (like how there is that ‘u’ near the limited tag on icons but could be with the infinity symbol, idk) or by having it visible when you go to actually view the ugc on it’s page, or you could just do both! But I do think that ugc restocking should be possible. (Also it should be more expensive to restock so creators have more risk in creating copies, and another thing you could do is if someone chooses to make an item “resellable” if they don’t make any new copies for a set amount of time then they are able to disable that option forever)
You can access it via Creator Hub on the configure page for free items:
Note that once you mark resellable for an item, you will no longer be able to restock the item afterwards. This is clearly marked by warnings in the UI when you try to do this to let you know.
We are aware that there may be niche use cases for restocking resellable or paid items but there are additional product concerns to figure out there, so this is not on the roadmap for the time being. We hope this release solves a majority of the use cases.
Thanks again for posting this! I’m going to mark this as the solution for now since we’ve shipped this and don’t have any work for restocking resellable/paid items on the planned roadmap for now.
