UI Constructive Criticism

Hi All,

I am looking for constructive criticism on my Dead Space inspired UI before continuing with using it in my game.

I don’t want to fall victim to confirmation bias (as I have done in the past,) and while I do feel like the UI is polished and ready, I want to hear what you guys think.

Be brutal!

Also, ignore the icons for the pickaxe and the resources, they are merely placeholders for viewportframes.

The only thing I can really add to this is the UI is right at you like isn’t straight it is tilted to the side that is the only thing that has thrown me off. Other than that I think it is a very good UI!

Nice work on the 3D UI! I don’t really have anything to say about it, good job!

maybe turn the character with the ui and like tween for tht so the effect is still there and it doesnt look trippy
also i would recommend changing the title boxes to a more darker color and less blue in it

Wow nice, I really like the UI and the futuristic asymmetrical headers like dead space as mentioned and also even border lands.

However I believe the biggest issue is that it doesn’t fully feel like it’s in the game world yet as compared to the games previously mentioned. There should be some sway like in dead space and borderlands like the character is holding the projector unstablely. Nvm deadspace doesn’t have it but borderlands does, might want to consider it and experiment though depending on the mood of the game.

Moreover the UI should be more facing towards the character, the way he stares to the right while facing frontward at the UI feels really uncomfortable. Usually the character should face sideways in some cases like the image below:

Also how does the UI hold up in low light environments if you are planning on having low light environments? Perhaps a different color scheme would be better also depends on the mood of your game.

Overall it hits the aesthetics on spot, just missing the final touches with the glaring issue with not the UI itself but the character and camera angles complemented when with the UI.

The television lines with the shades of grey and white text is very appealing. I also like the shapes of the overlaying GUIs.

I would suggest giving the key legends a separate background to distinguish it from the description. Also, the icon for stone is expressed differently compared to the other resource icons: it does not appear 3D and has a floor.

Maybe change it to where it sends you into first person while you are looking at your inventory, it would be easier for you to see.

I don’t know if this is the correct fix, I just feel like something is missing.
